I'm not sure if that's a typo in the thread title or not, so just to clarify: are you talking about this movie:

http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=1:318685

Or are you talking about this one:

i had never even heard of this movie until i came to japan and saw the white cat, marie, on everything. it's a really popular character here even though most of the kids here have never seen the movie.

Ev'ry truly cultured music student knows.
You must learn your scales and your arpeggios.
Bring the music, ringing from your chest and not your nose.
While you sing your scales and your arpeggios.

The Aristocats is certainly what I would class as one of the 'better' Disney movies, not precisely a 'good' Disney movie (Good is normally as high as I go  with Disney except for Fantasia), but definitely not a 'so-so' 'bad', 'crap' or 'Jesus tapdancing Christ this is shit!' Disney movie. Disney has produced nothing but so-so and lower since The Great Mouse Detective, imo, except arguably Beauty and the Beast.

The reason for this can be seen by comparing any cover of a recent Disney DVD re-release of one of these films (especially darker films like The Rescuers) to the actual contents.

Yeah, because they're pixar films. Disney can't really take any credit for them, it just makes money out of them, like it does with Studio Ghibli, though much more quietly.

Aristocats was and is still one of my favorite movies. I mean, leaving a fortune to your cats, using a bottle of sleeping pills to kidnap them, the trip to the country where Edgar is trying to be all secretive around the cops (even though there was little reason), the goose sisters with their drunk uncle, there's just so much to love.

me hearts studio ghibli. me hearts pixar, but kind of more now they are making movies without disney, though the disney ones were good.

i think the last disney movie i liked was mulan, though it is not a favorite. after that they went even more downhill. and that's when the sequels kept popping up.

WTF?

That is easily the shittest Disney film I have ever actually bothered to see.

I mean, seriously seriously shit. The jokes aren't funny, the villain isn't scary, the songs are crud, the animation is charmless, the plot thin and uninteresting dreck assembled from the cast offs of better stories. Hercules? Maybe. The Lion King? Possibly. The Emperors New Groove? Fuck off!

The description just above explains the basic reason so many modern Disney films are crap: Disney has actually backpedalled with regards what it's allowed to show on screen. Ever since The Great Mouse Detective it's not allowed to show characters smoking, drinking, taking any kind of drugs and it strictly limits the amount of deaths per film, and how scary anything is allowed to be. Disney probably actually wouldn't allow themselves to make half their classic films anymore. Their code is increasingly preventing them from creating good villains or putting any balance or variation in their stories.

i think it's pretty silly to cut back on the violence or whatever. classic disney movies are nowhere near as bad as cartoons on TV. shrek is full of innuendos and whatnot and that movie is doing a whole lot better than disney movies. and the second one is actually good. i think the only sequel disney made that was any good was the rescuers down under, though i still like the first a lot more.

I agree with khar. The shittiness of new disney movies is really hurting the Disney Porn business. I mean, any day of the week I can go find Belle sucking off The Beast or having a threesome with Ariel and Mulan, because those are all great movies which we have a lot of fond memories about! But all these new disney movies, we can't identify enough with the characters to want to see their hoo-has and wing-wangs!

The above post is irrefutable proof that all those subliminal sexual mssages in Disney movies do have an impact.

Oh, and I thought that the Emperor's New Groove was super-rad.  Jokes I actually found funny (lions and tigers and bears!  Oh my!), allowing one of the characters to be pregnant, a little moral ambiguity, and breaking the fourth wall all made it the Disney movie I'd least mind waching as an adult.  Now everything since on the other hand . . . .

I can only ask you two important questions:

A) why

b) how much cocaine do you ingest on a daily basis?

@Troll: Hasn't that Disney porn slump had more to do with the facts that all Disneys recent movies have either children or animals as their protagonists?

Oh, no, wait, this is the internet. Boy, they must suck.

Wrong. mulan and fantasia 2000 are definitely better than that one. i would include james and the giant peach, but that's not completely animated. (and since you only said non-pixar, all the ghibly ones totally win out the ones made in the past ten years. ^_- )

Man, I didn't know Disney even claimed Nightmare Before Christmas and minor ghibli films like The Cat Returns.

As far as I'm concerned, when I talk about Disney films, I, and probably most other people, mean animated films that start with the Disney Castle logo.

Anwyay, lets talk about how great Fantasia is, bar that embarrasing bit with the dancing hippos.

Although it's not entirely Disneys doing this (Part 1) and this (Part 2) is some of the coolest shit I've seen in AGES. The Night on the Bare Mountain segment of Fantasia synched up to classic Black Sabbath tunes.

Completely right, except that pretty much everything Kronk said was hilarious, because Patrick Warburton is an incredible voice talent.

Aside from that shit fest, I'd go with Robin Hood as my favorite.

I gotta say nothing can really beat the Fox and the Hound for me.
The scene where the hound thinks his owner shot the fox...pure emotion.  I cried.

Of course, the other memory that movie brings about is the avatar everyone's been running around with for years with Balloo and the fox and the cream, lol.  Corrupting my youth for the win.

You are a man with insanity in his brain. Mulan was crap. The only good parts were the ones with the bad guy. I mean, honestly, Eddie Murphy.

Emperor's New Groove and Lilo and Stitch are both great Disney stuff, in my opinion. Then Michael Eisner goes and shuts down their studio. Grr.

except i'm a girl. maybe i listened to "I'll Make a Man Out of You" too much... oh jeeze. i don't see what's so wrong with eddie murphy...

lilo and stich was at best okay, but we watched Emperor's in class once in high school and i was bored enough half way through to just give up and take a nap. but honestly all of the movies i really enjoyed were a) really old or b) based off of popular legends/fairy tales anyways. ^_^

Whoops, guess Jack Sparrow threw me off a wee bit. Also Eddie Murphy has not been funny since the 80s. This is an historical fact that can be read in any child's textbook.

See, I can't comprehend being bored with the Emperor's New Groove. The plot is one notch below ADHD level. And Lilo and Stitch was beautiful to look at, with good characterization and Ving Rhames. Plus the Elvis. How can you not love the Elvis?

Sorry, I am kind of weird when it comes to people having different tastes than me. It is like an OCD compulsion to show them they are wrong.

what? eddie murphy is hilarious in shrek and shrek 2, and those definitely came from this decade.

i don't care much for elvis. i never got into him. and i like ving rhames a lot, but you can't see him!

i haven't really cared so much for the animation since it went digital. i have nothing against digital animation, but i like the artistry of the older cartoons much better.
