Drum and Bass anyone?

<< < (2/5) > >>

nuisance:
Drum'n'bass is one of the easier ones, I reckon.

Faster than 160bpm, beats are based around anything except the 4-to-the-floor doof doof doof doof that is commonplace in house, techno and trance.  Often uses sampled breakbeats, traditionally with a lot of syncopation and variations, although after the arrival of tech-step in 1998 the really detailed, edited stuff has become much less popular.  I think probably anyone who has got into drum n bass since about 2000 thinks of it as having big punchy beats and angry, distorted basslines.

I never quite got into drum n bass.  There are some tracks I like from producers like Digital, Omni Trio, Photek, and Klute, and some jungle stuff like Congo Natty, but I was never rrrrrreally into it.

elcapitan:
Klute is good.

Actually, I found my copy of Pendulum's Hold Your Colour the other day, and it's been on steady rotation ever since. I know it's not fashionable among DnB purists, but fuck me, some of the tracks are great. The more goey tunes (Through The Loop) are a bit empty, and Fasten Your Seatbelts makes my skin crawl, but the chilled-out songs like Still Grey and Hold Your Colour are just good, wholesome listening.

BTW, if you want an esoteric subgenre: ghettotech.

KharBevNor:
I swear the first person to mention Death From Above 1979 gets cockslapped all the way to hell.

I kind of enjoy Curse of the Golden Vampire, so called 'Scum 'n Bass', If I were to find anything else of similiar insanity, I might also like that. One of my mates got very into Pendulum, and I must confess I found it somewhat boring, though there were some interesting tracks.

But... they're not even drum'n'bass! Not in the genre sense, anyways.
