Pan's Labyrinth. Prior to that... The Departed...

Everything else. Meh.

Gemmwah:
Freedom Writers.

Much love for that movie, as it's based on a true story. I have immense respect for Ms G.

last movie i saw that i thought wasn't that good - Talladega Nights

TheBoredOne:
Brick.

That was a really good movie.
It's like a classic film noir.. old school detective style, with some great dialogue on the level of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang.
Example: The hero is trying to get some info out of some druggies, and when he kicks one of their butts, he looks at the others and goes "I've got all five senses and I slept last night. That puts me 6 up on the lot of ya!"

It's really unique in that it's all based in a high school setting. You might feel pulled out of that reality sometimes, but they make sure to remind you (sometimes comically) that these are still highschool kids.
For example, the hero meets with the Kingpin, basically the mob boss... and they have their meeting in his parent's basement, and later, after they beat him up and whatnot, the kingpin's mom gives him a bowl of cereal and some apple juice. XD

Great performances all around, except I didn't really like the actress thats supposed to be playing all the sides.
