Hey guys I wonder if you might be able to help me I am looking for information about these bands and I already used Wiki
I want people's opinion on it.
First Pearl Jam
I saw Pearl Jam on TV on the Reading and Leeds festival and afterwards I bought Ten but I wondered if you could suggest some more releases from them that would be good
I want some help on Flogging Molly as its my Dad's birthday coming up and occasionally I have bought him Pogues CD's before but I thought I might try something different for him so I wondered what album would you recommend to start off with for Flogging Molly
Finally Coheed and Cambria I saw them on the Reading and Leeds festival as well and was completely blown away. They were well I hate to use the word but they were AWESOME where do I start on Coheed and Cambria

The only Flogging Molly album I have currently is "Drunken Lullabies". A good one!

With Coheed you're probably going to want to start with their first, and really least pretentious, album, Second Stage Turbine Blade. In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: III or whatever is the second album, and it's really solid songwriting, but fairly pretentious. And keep in mind their latest album is pretty dire, and the name is a twenty-word long smorgasbord of dumbass.

You should try Vs.

I got all nostalgic today and bought a Pearl Jam t shirt but that not the point.

If you're expecting another 'Ten', you'll be disappointed, but personally I find Vs. and their new self-titled album to be much better. Vs. is both their best album as a whole and has the best songs (Rearviewmirror, Elderly Women Behind The Counter In A Small Town) I pretty much like all Pearl Jam though.

For Flogging Molly I recommend Drunken Lullabies and Swagger.

God dammit I had completely blocked out their album titles and now it has totally come back to me.

I didn't want any negative comments if you here to slag the band off DON'T WRITE ANYTHING! I'm sick and fed up of negativeness in this forum. Now tell me what albums you would recommend if you like the band if you don't DON'T WRITE ANYTHING!

I second the suggestion of Vs. by Pearl Jam. Yeah Pearl Jam went down the road to some pretty painful albums but ignore the haters, their first three albums are decent.

I used to really like Pearl Jam so they have a place in my heart and record collection. No Code is my favourite of their albums, especially the song 'Smile' for its Neil Young-ish vibe.

Coheed and Cambria sound and look dreadful. Flogging Molly I have no opinion on.

for Pearl Jam i'm going second Vs. and i'll add Riot Act because i think its a great album.

the only Floggin Molly i have Drunken Lullabies and i remember liking it, though i havent listened to it ages.

never listened to coheed and cambria, sorry.

Ok Thank you to those I helped. Long songtitles don't bother me One of my favourite albums The Soft Bulletin

has some of the longest song titles you have seen.

Clearly you have never encountered a Sufjan Stevens album. And also, the new Flaming Lips record has songs with much, much, much longer names.

Pearl Jam is okay. Some good, a lot of mediocre. Flogging Molly is a great band, but I can't see how anyone can seriously listen to Coheed and Cambria and think "This is good music." They're just so appallingly awful. It's like they took all the bad cliches from the genres they're trying to emulate and used them as often as they could.

I have two Flogging Molly Albums: Drunken Lullabies and Swagger. Personally I like Swagger better, it's an earlier album, and you can hear a LOT more of the Irish folk influence in it than you can in Drunken Lullabies.

I am a recent Coheed fan (about four months young). Since their repertoire has a continuity across it, I started with The Second Stage Turbine Blade and went in order from there. I think In Keeping Secrets is my favorite right now, I love the opening battle scene, but Good Apollo: Volume 1 I also like a lot because it has such an operatic feel to it. It really flows like it has a beginning, middle, and end. I find that irresistible.

As for Flogging Molly, you could seriously start anywhere. I can't think of anything from them that I don't like.

EDIT: Addendum - My first Flogging Molly disc was Drunken Lullabies. It holds a special place in my hearts. Go ahead and start with that.

With Pearl Jam I would stick with the first 3 records- Ten, Vs and Vitalogy. I didn't really like the stuff afterwards. Swagger is an awesome Flogging Molly album-catchy as all hell and alot to do with Irish trad music. I've never heard any Coheed and Cambria but from what people have told me about them I don't think its really my style.

I would suggest skipping Flogging Molly all together, and picking up some Tossers, in particular Communication and Conviction or Purgatory (the new one is kinda eh). Been around longer than Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys et al, and they go for a much more authentic sound, with just a bit of punk rock tossed in.

I don't make the recommendation solely based on them being from Chicago, either.
