Big up the Canberra massive! :P Stonefest always falls at such a bad time, but what the hell, I'll be going this year. I wish I was at UC not ANU though, so much freakin' cheaper!

Good Things in the lineup:

Regurgitator - never seen the Gurge live, will be curious!
Kid 606 - from what little I've heard, I'm intrigued. May not be for everyone though.
The Herd - oh fuck yes! These guys are incredible. I saw them at the ANU bar not too long ago, and I can't wait to go nuts again.
Hancock Basement - I'll support the local boys. Saw them supporting The Presets not long ago, and a few times beforehand. Besides, since I was actually in the Hancock basement today... :)
Infusion - these guys rock. Really, really fun. Unfortunately last time I went to see them at Academy, my soft-cock mate had to go get his girlfriend before they'd really started, and he was my only lifelife. I'll be there for the duration this time.
Kid Kenobi & MC Shureshock - saw these guys at Parklife last weekend, and I've seen Kid Kenobi on his own a couple of other times, back when he was coming up. Kid Kenobi isn't really breaks anymore, but he still plays a fun set. Shureshock, on the other hand, is shurely shocking... Wack white-boy MC, anyone? Anyways, fifty bucks says that he drops Put Your Hands Up For Detroit like it's hot, which it really isn't. (Unless it's the Bass Kleph bootleg, which is pretty damn fun to cut up a rug to).
Los Capitanes - I used to play in a band with two of these guys, and I went to high school with Billy, but I've never actually heard them play.
Bass Kleph - shit yeah! Awesome breaks DJ who I missed at Parklife, on account of getting there late. He's done some killer production work, I'm looking forward to getting amongst it.
D'Opus & Pornstylus - these boys are fun fun fun. The first I heard of D'Opus was a set he played at his girlfriend's 21st, but he's gotten acclaim recently for his work with Roshambo (really, really good local hip-hop). Pornstylus used to drink at my bar. Will be fun, would be great to see Ro get up and MC a bit. (Name-drop time: Roshambo's little sister is one of my best mates).

Not So Good Things:

Hoodoo Gurus - someone put these old fuckers to bed please.
The Avalanches - well, since DJ Dexter isn't going to be there, what's the point?
Cog - pretentious wankers. Only song of theirs that is listenable is Paris, Texas, and even that's nothing to write home about. I'll be outside during this one.
Urge Overkill - not sure what to make of these guys.

I saw Regugitator many a time in the mid to late nineties and they were one of my favourite live bands. Then Happyland started and they wore funny suits. I hope that they still rock out and don't play too much electro pop stuff.

Somebody's actually named a band after the basement of the Hancock Library?  That is SO FUCKING COOL.

What kind of music do they play?

EDIT: never mind, I found their MySpace.  Pretty cool!  (Although I also would have accepted, just this once, fantasy metal: I always felt like I was going to stumble into a dragon's lair when I went down to the Hancock Basement.)

Yep. The irony is that two of them (I think) are from the UC. I don't even know if the UC library has a name.

I was always more partial to the sterilised charm of the Chifley basement. Truly, I would not be surprised to walk in there and find Mulder and Scully conducting an alien autopsy.

It's official, I have bought my ticket and I will be there!

Anyone else here a definite?

If you are, we should definitely meet up. I will be obnoxiously drunk and probably off chops on something or other, though.

I've got exams to study for this weekend :( so I won't be. The Mark of Cain are a really excellent band though, make sure you check them out. "This is This" is a great record.

I'll be in Canberra for "Metal for The Brain" the next weekend though.  If anyone from here is going to be at that. It's a pretty crappy lineup (compared with previous years) but I figure it'll be pretty memorable since it's the last one.

As a former ANU student I find that Handcok library thing hillarious, There was a fairly decent band a few years ago when I lived in Canberra called Barry Drive named after the road that backs onto the ANU, (near the physics building).
