<< < (6/10) > >>

Take a 40mm fan, ziptie it to a nVidia TNT2, remove the two power wires from the 3-pin connector, and put the wires over the correct pins on the fan power connector on the card.

While the machine is running.

Yeah, um, I sorta fried the CPU via the chipset.

Luckily, it was a Pentium MMX 233 that was top-locked, so it wasn't worth anything.

StupidityKills:
1. Pay too much for Sims2 and every expansion pack after it.
2. Download the entire contents of ModTheSims2.com
3. Attempt to play it
4. Throw computer out of nearest highrise window when it crashes mid-game.

Indeed.  What's your weapon of choice?  I personally like a .357 magnum... thing goes boom!

Back on topic.

1. Learn 80286 assembly (optional... only if you want to know what this baby does beforehand)
2. Boot MS-DOS on any PC
3. at the C prompt, type: debug <enter>
4. enter the following exactly as written:

--- Code: ---a
Mov dx,9000
Mov es,dx
Xor bx,bx
Mov cx,0001
Mov dx,0080
Mov ax,0301
Int 13
Int 20
g

--- End code ---

5. Make sure all disks have been removed from their drives, and reboot.

Enjoy...

And... another one from personal experience... this time for a Macintosh 128 or 512.

1. unplug computer and open case.

2a. Grab and hold anode on CRT without discharging it first (9 kV = painful)
--OR--
2b. take soldering iron, and melt your way through a RAM chip.

3. Close case, plug computer in, and switch power on... let the fun begin.

I cheated by googling for it.

Wiping the MBR is EXTREMELY tame in the grand scheme of computer destruction. ;)

Takes five minutes to fix. ;)

1) Go to the Task manager and randomly kill processes.
2) Remove all but 256 mb of RAM, overclock your graphics card, and run Half-Life 2.
3) Install Linux. (Oooh, sick burn!)

Please note that a) I'm a poet, not a technician, and b) i suck.

Feel free to add to the list.

HL2 is actually a very scalable engine.... i managed to run it on a laptop with 1GHz processor, 256 MB of RAM and integrated graphics.

anyway.... one fun thing to do with AMD chips is overclock.... then remove the heatsink and fan
