Green Day = THEIVES!?!?

El Opium:
Something similar happend with Greenday's last album Warning. An unknown Scottish band attempted to sue them for knicking a hook. It then turned out that the hook in both songs resembled "Picture Book" by the Kinks, so then everyone shut up, which is a good thing.

Jimmy Balls-O-Steel:

--- Quote from: ImRonBurgundy? ---By the way, the power chord riff in "American Idiot" is pretty much exactly the same as the one in the Dillinger Four song "doublewhiskeycokenoice", from their 1998 album Midwestern Songs of the Americas.? And I haven't heard the song in a while, so I can't verify, but I've heard claims that "She's a Rebel" is remarkably similar to Jawbreaker's "Boxcar".

--- End quote ---

I'm listening to the "doublewhiskeycokenoice," and it seems that, if Green Day did conciously do this, they tweaked it just enough to get away with it. And for the sake of splitting hairs, this really only applies to the song's opening riff.

And "She's A Rebel" not only rips of Jawbreaker, but the chorus is either a rip-off of or an homage to (which is essentially hanging a lantern on a rip-off) the Christmas carol "Do You See What I See?"

ImRonBurgundy?:
Yeah, the rest of "doublewhiskeycokenoice" attains levels of awesomeness that Green Day could only hope to touch.

And good call with the "Do You See What I See?".  That's pretty damn funny.

StevoF:
I remember kerrang running a story back in 2001/2002 that they stole warning from another band.

Greenday are past their best anyway..

öde:
GREENDAY STOLE MY POKEMANS.
