On a side note, I remember the day I traded in the first Third Eye Blind album and a Men In Black soundtrack CD a friend had bought me months before (which I admittedly enjoyed for awhile because I was in 8th grade), and bought a copy of Beck's Mutations, which had come out recently, with the credit and some birthday money. Walking out of the store was like waking from a long, feverish dream.

Rammstein and Rob Zombie are supposed to be stuff we're ashamed to listen to, as well?

Shit, guys.  This thread is depressing.  Seems like every time I see a new post in the thread, it's someone naming a band I like that they feel is bad music they have to confess to listening to.  I had no idea it's not posh.

Next I'm going to be told I should be ashamed of liking The White Stripes.

I got flack for seeing them last year at a huge venue, because its obviously my fault that I wasn't in Australia when they were playing tiny pubs to 50 people and I wasn't cool enough to like them before they were popular

But that would mean Stone Temple Pilot's Purple is a bad album, but it isn't a bad album.

I suggest you re-evaluate that album, sir. I believe you will find it to be bad.

It's not a GREAT album, but it's not a bad album.  "Big Empty" is one of my favorite songs ever.

i think the fact that i listened to The Black Parade on repeat all day yesterday and pumped my fist in the air and then posted some of the lyrics on my blog is proof that i'm way messed, and my friends were justified in giving me a comic called 'emo boy'
not the album. just that one song. over and over and over and over again

there are people who think Bruce Springsteen is shit. those people are idiots

The secret track on that album is "Playdough!", dude.  But that's an extremely awesome song, too (especially live), so no worries.

Should I be ashamed of having soft spots for Less Than Jake and MxPx from freshman year of high school?  Because I am totally not.

I have formulated my own version of this.

I have discovered if every song on an album is bad, the album is also bad.
If every song on an album is good, the album is good.
Try it for yourselves.

Yes, but then you must listen to every song and make a value judgement on the entire album. My method is very subjective and biased. Plus seriously the bad hidden tracks are inevitably hilarious.

Hmm, i'm not sure about this one. Both 'End Hits' and 'Argument' are superb albums, but both have one track that is pretty shit (F/D and Full Disclosure).

Read more carefully. He meant that IF EVERY SONG on an album is good, it's automatically good album. If every song sucks, it's automatically a bad album.

He has made no claim to the fact that a good album must have only good songs. A good album could have a couple crap songs. But if an album has ONLY good songs it is automatically good.

Although some of these bands have already been mentioned, I'm going to add my little list here because I am new to the forums. (hello!)

This is pretty bad, but I listen to Panic! At the Disco. Only to work out to. But dammit, it's catchy and I like it. ....I'm so ashamed. I also had my Linkin Park phase (Crawling was like, the best song EVAAAR). I had a brief period in about tenth grade where I was completely obsessed with Something Corporate.

But my crowning achievement was the purchase of an incredibly awful album. I bought it on a friend's recommendation, and I hated it, but it was still a part of my music collection:

Good Charlotte.

The fact that I supported this band in any way keeps me up at night. I was in eighth grade, but goddammit, that's no excuse.

Ugh. My ex always tried forcing Good Charlotte and the Deftones on me. The latter I don't mind at all.

Kaiser Chiefs. Although I just heard a song from their upcoming album and it was goddamned terrible. They got rid of all the whoa-ohs and na-na-nas.

i feel like i should disown myself after coming to the realisation i own these albums

my chemical romance - three cheers for sweet revenge ('the ghost of you' video was its only redeeming quality)
the first two lost prophets albums, although i did really like the first one and occasionally give it a listen
dashboard confessional - a mark, a mission, a brand, a scar.  (i think my organs are setting themselves on fire for this admital)
the most recent alkaline trio album was terrible.  in my opinion, good mourning was their best by far, all of their other stuff was completely hit and miss

The Flaming Lips have not made a bad album, though The Soft Bulletin came awfully close.

I don't have any CDs I wouldn't justify as actually being good, but I do have some stuff that I would qualify by saying "I own this because it was only a dollar or two, which is how much it is worth to me".  Stuff like Nina Gordon, Juliana Hatfield, EMF, Kittens, Dink, etc.  Bargain bin stuff.

we all have it.  that one cd we have hidden under our mattress...the one we only bring out when NOONE is around, and it's dancing in our underwear time....

confession cleanses the souls, brothers and sisters.   CONFESS, so that your mind may be free.

i'll begin.

i...i like the killers.  i know.  i know.  i can't help it.  i try not to.  really, i do.  but their poppy beats, and completely obvious depeche mode ripoffs are just too much for me.  i listen to them, and i smile...oh god...i'm sick...

your turn

Killers aren't so bad, they're just vanilla.  I don't listen to them, but I don't mind when I'm working somewhere and they come out on the radio, and I have no doubt I would have loved them if they were around before 2001.

There are a lot of bands I listened to from 1996-2001 that I'd be embarassed to admit I ever liked now, but there's one 'embarassment' person I still enjoy.

Alanis Morisette.  I still occasionally listen to Jagged Little Pill.  It's really not a bad album.  It just got insanely overplayed and in no way deserved to sell anywhere near the numbers it did.

Blink 182 has been my guilty pop pleasure for some time. I loved them in year 8, and maybe it's mostly Nostalgia, but I still quite enjoy them., Oh well. The same goes for Korn's Follow the Leader album. Also, I would say Sonata Arctica are another guilty pleasure, but not quite as guilty as those two other bands. That is all!
