Bond, James Bond
Chesire Cat:
I thought the Free Running was good dont get me wrong, but for proponents of a more "realistic Bond movie" tapping into fads doesn't lend itself to that arguement very well at all.
And to your legacy schmegacy thoughts, if they are set to change or renew the legacy, have a clean break etc. Why not just start a new franchise, an original one. It seems like making it a Bond movie was more about a cross promotion scheme to get the built in Bond movie fanbase to show up, and an action movie to get the action movie crowd to buy tickets.
But ignoring the ideological issues I had with it, it was still a mediocre movie that went on for alot long than I would wish. It wasnt captivating so I didnt need to waste an extra hour of my life waiting for it to end. Ive seen other bond movies, hell, other action movies have twice as much happen in almost half as much time, and was much better for it.
Peet:
In the novel, the game played is baccarrat.
And who knows what the hell that is?
Ozymandias:
I know how to play baccarat.
It's boring as hell. You cannot devote an hour of a movie to a frickin' high stakes baccarat game.
I think poker worked logically and perfectly.
bujiatang:
I think the other Bond films are crap. The Bond as a character was wooden, sure they gave him one liners, but he never grew, he was unsympathetic, and he was a sloppy spy in every movie after Dr No. They are like watching the Duke late in carrier "Now listen here pilgrim" with a script tucked into his shirt so he didn't have to practice the lines.
Notice that Connery was the only one to kick his shoes off so that he wouldn't be heard creeping.
Slick:
Most people don't understand baccarrat, and it is not as exciting as poker. Still, the poker scenes in the movie were pretty much predictable crap. I understand it wasn't a poker movie, but I didn't really like the scenes that much. I also loathed the fact that they played texas hold 'em; I learned on 5 card draw and that's what I like. Sure, you don't have the intrigue and calculation of the flop/river/turn, but it makes for a game based more on betting & bluffing, which is how I like to play.
