Having recently acquired I Am Trying to Break Your Heart - A Film About Wilco and Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem (Daft Punk); I'm interested in obtaining some more of these marvelous creations. So please post your favorite music dvds and why you like them. Perhaps we could even have a discussion of some kind...

One of my favorite DVDs I've bought this year is Opeth's "Lamentations." One simple reason why: they play all (or close to all) or their "Damnation" album, which sounds great live. With mostly acoustic guitars, and just a light sound overall, everything stands out with amazing clarity in 5.1 surround sound. Long live the mellotron!

I Am Trying To Break Your Heart is a very good one, but i think that (Instrument pending), the best one i've seen is Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads.

Converge - The Long Road Home. ?On one side of the disc you have a compilation of old video footage spanning the first 12 years of the band's career, on the other side you have three different full sets. ?It's well worth the price; on the plus side, Deathwish was only charging $12 for it when it came out.

Relapse Records Contamination Festival dvd. ?The Mastodon and Neurosis sets alone were worth it, plus it's cool to see some old Pig Destroyer stuff live as well.

The Hives' "Tussles in Brussels:

Showcases the Hives doing what they do best: playing amazing rock music. Many people I know that haven't even heard of the Hives before have become huge Hives fans after watching this.

And I will have to second "Stop Making Sense," man that is a great movie.

Audioslave: Live in Cuba.

First American rock band to ever play Cuba. The documentary on the band's trip to the country was pretty neat, and the concert itself was pretty awesome.

That's actually the only music DVD I've ever seen, but I enjoyed it a lot.

I forgot Zao's "The Lesser Lights Of Heaven," which is one of the best band-related DVD's I've ever seen. If you're a fan of the band, it's awesome to see this much history. The people who put the documentary portion of the dvd together did a fantastic job compiling it, and the extra live footage on the second disc is well worth watching also

Behemoth's Crush.Fukk.Create DVD s pretty fun, but that's about all I've seen, bar a few Nuclear Blast vid compilations I own, Metal: A Headbangers Journey (which is actually a pretty fair overview of the whole thing, though I only partially agree with the guys thesis. It's worth it for the interview with Gaahl alone.) From the clips on Youtube, I really want to see all of Current 93's 'Since Yesterday', except I'm pretty sure it's never been released on DVD and since World Serpent has sadly folded it probably never will.

Emperor's Emperial Live Ceremony has incredible sound for a metal live set.
Carpathian Forest's We're Going To Hollywood For This: Live Perversions is pretty cool. Nattefrost keeps calling the audience black metal dudes and the bass player has a very strange dress sense.

On the way to work this morning, I remembered what is quite possibly my favorite music DVD of all-time.

Peter Gabriel's "Growing Up - Live" DVD.

Probably one of the best concerts I've ever seen on film, just so theatrical and inspired. The sound is phenominal, the visuals are brilliant, and the performances are moving.

It just doesn't get much better than that one, for me.

I recently bought Live at the Palladium by Bad Religion.

Yeah, I'm a Bad Religion bum-monkey, but this was a purchase for the fact that a lot of it consisted of stuff from Empire Strikes First, which is an awesome album, and the best new stuff they've released. I mean, listen to Sinister Rouge along with the overture. Punch in the face, anti-Papal bliss.
But, to be honest, its BR's first live DVD, and it was good, but not GREAT. The footage was strung together from two seperate shows, which I hate anyway, but you wouldve thought they would try to make it more subtle. One shot - Brett playing guitar with spiked hair and glasses - next shot his hair is instantly soaked and the glasses have gone. It's pieced together to be pulled off as one show, not like a patchwork, but done poorly.

Yay to the band, boo to the video engineers.

Oh, and the Gorillaz live vid is also good. Watch.

When I clicked this thread the first thought that popped into my head was I bet it starts with Wilco. Honestly when any of the rest of you watched that dvd what did you like about it? When I watched that I remember being far more interested in the girl next to me than what was going on in the DVD, I just felt like it wasnt very interesting, so what was entertaining about it?

And for the rest, in general do you think music dvd's are worth the price? Occassionally I enjoy one, but never enough that I'd want to buy it for myself.

Blood On The Cats - a collection of great garage/trash/psychobilly/etc. You got live footage of the Milkshakes (proving Billy Childish has not always had a mustache!), Stingrays, Guana Batz, the Meteors, Demented Are Go, Long Tall Texans, and video clips of the Meteors, Sharks, Empress of Fur, Frenzy, even the Jazz Butcher (!) and more.

Samael's "Black Trip" and Paradise Lost's "Evolve" would be my two favorite DVD's. Bruce Dickinson's "Anthology" is very good as well

chalk up another for Fugazi's "Instrument". Wonderful stuff there.

I really like Sonic Youth's "Corporate Ghost"; just for the sheer amount of music video goodness on it- all the commentaries are pretty neat too. and the fan-made puppet video for "Drunken Butterfly" is just too funny.

the Ted Leo "Dirty Old Town" dvd is pretty sweet. "Parallel or Together?" is played like two times faster, and "Ballad of the Sin Eater" is on it so you know theres some good fun to be had.

lastly, the Burn to Shine series is awesome.
