auction is way expensive. but it contains an interesting read.

have a look, it blew my mind when i saw it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/VELVET-UNDERGROUND-NICO-1966-Acetate-LP-ANDY-WARHOL_W0QQitemZ300054910309QQihZ020QQcategoryZ306QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

so, if you ever came across something this rare, what would you do with it?

If I ever had enough money to purchase a rare item I would probably end up walking out of an auction house happy, then slip on some ice in the middle of summer and completely smash said valuable item into little bits. Then I would spend 2 weeks crying.

I have it on good authority that this acetate has already been used to press a Bootleg years back.

This is true, but that bootleg sucks. I can only hope that whoever buys the acetate will actually have some money left over for it to be properly remastered.

I'll also agree with your point that the amount of money is getting silly. I was figuring that 60k or so would be enough... at 133k, I'd rather buy my own home than own that record.

yes, so the story goes. but apparently the audio quality of this bootleg is downright dreadful

the current seller got it in a yard/street sale for 75 cents...

read the short article included in the auction, its worth the little bit of history, made me cry to think its another little treasure i will never have the chance to own :(

no, i truly wouldnt, well, at least not without ;
1)rubber gloves
2)hermetically sealed chamber
3)laser record player

and with said equipment i would make a high quality digitization of it.

then i would likely seal it in some kind of vaccum display case with special UV proof glass.

If this was just one of the original pressings of the album or something I wouldn't be impressed. That it is possibly hitherto-unheard makes it pretty valuable I think.

this was recorded before, under the supervision of andy warhol....all of the tracks have some differences compared to the released version. either vast differences, or a different mix.

I wonder how many bidders are bidding for Velvet Underground-fan sake, and how many are doing it just because of the rareness? I wonder how I never realized how weird "sake" looks.

Still, for that much money you could get Lou Reed to play your bar mitzvah.

This whole thing is ridiculous. It's all based around the obsession with the fact that hardly anyone saw the Velvet Underground when they were at the height of their powers, so the next best thing is to get bootlegs and rare test pressings.

No band and no music is worth that amount of money.

correction: as of now (11:02 pm EST) it's up to $155,501.00. scary how much money people are willing to spend on poorly conserved pieces of plastic., whether it's musical plastic or not.

I think we could bring Sterling Morrison back from the dead for $155,000.

I don't think Galaxie 500 sound much of anything like the Velvet Underground. At the most I'd say they sound like third and fourth album VU.
