Rogue Galaxy?
« on: 20 Dec 2006, 18:24 »

I just happened to stumble upon this game on IGN.com, the other night.  Looks to be a potentially great swan song game for the PS2.  Considering I'll probably be getting FFXII and Bully for Christmas and I'm still slugging through Oblivion on my PC right now, I doubt I need another epic RPG a month after Christmas, but it looks to good to pass up!  Definitely watch the cinematic videos on IGN.com (haven't checked Youtube or anything else for them, so not sure where else they'd be).  Anyone else looking forward to / know much about this game?

I have the import version of this, if you liked Dark Chronicle you'll definitely like this. I got about a hundred hours out of Dark Chronicle and I can definitely see myself getting a similar amount of gameplay when I don't have to rely on my Japanese friend to translate it for me.

If you haven't played Dark Chronicle, you owe it to yourself to get it.

It's made by the same people as Dark Cloud 2, so I'm sure as hell picking it up.

and Dark Cloud 1.  I just got a demo disc in the mail, actually.  It's a lot of fun.

Dark Cloud 2 was actually way better than the original, though.

that goes without saying.  They're almost too different to be in the same series.  But yeah, even so, I had a lot of fun with the first one.  Only thing that really got to me was the weapons disappearing every time they broke.

Bizarre. I got a demo of this in the mail today. It was wrapped in a poster and (for some reason) a flag.

I guess I'll play it after all and let you know how the demo is.

Does the flag have that space-pirate ship from the game cover on it?  If so, hang it with pride!  Pride in what?  I don't know... space-piracy, maybe?

I know...I played the second one.  The demo, like I said, was pretty fun.  They have one section where you just run around a village talking to people (at least, that's what I did) for 15 minutes, and it takes you back to the menu after.  The other part is a battle with a "hunt" creature (sort of a sidequest) which basically shows you how the battles go.  And that's where it gets fun.  The other party member AI is so much better than in Star Ocean 3 and Final Fantasy XII.  And the decision system makes things flow much better than pausing the fight to confirm something.  It took me a good ten minutes to beat the "hunt" creature.  The last little bit is the first trailer they released for it, but in English instead of Japanese this time.
