I saw this earlier on Gamespot today, and I was totally not expecting this sort of move at all. I think this is potentially a huge blow for Sony, especially in the Japanese market, where those games are nearly as big as Final Fantasy. I mean, the DQ series has sold 41 million copies worldwide, which even spread over 8 games is pretty big. As somebody who enjoys traditional turn-based RPGs on portables more anyway, I'm fine with this move since I have a DS already and the same guys who developed DQ8 are making this as well.
But man, whoever's negotiating Sony's licensing deals is fucking up big time. They lost exclusivity on GTA4 and Assassin's Creed and Koei's two games (Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm), and Microsoft just straight-up pulled BioShock out from under them, not to mention making the next Splinter Cell game a 360 exclusive. I don't know if this is more Sony dropping the ball or SquareEnix giving the PS3 a vote of no confidence, but man.
