KJS needs recommendations, part two!
« on: 02 Feb 2007, 17:50 »

Okay, so I have everything Pavement ever did (and I'm absolutely loving it), and I have every Ted Leo item that Demonoid.com has to offer, and I like the sounds of the following bands:

  • Sigur Ros
  • Modest Mouse (working on torrenting as much of them as possible)
  • Dismemberment Plan
  • Sleater-Kinney (yeah, yeah)

Can you guys provide me with some help along these lines? I just ask that you keep a fairly broad spectrum of stuff open, but not so broad that you're recommending me everything from bluegrass to ICP.

Thanks again guys, the last recommendation thread I did yielded surprisingly awesome results.

I'm just listening to the Silver Jews and I think that you'll like them. Just get whatever album you can get.

Also: Yo La Tengo (I Can Hear the Heart Beating As One), Lungfish (Pass & Staw), Jim O'Rourke (you'll probably like Insignificance) and When I'll think of more I'll post them.

I'm sure I said many of these already, but here goes.

Dead Meadow
Super Furry Animals
Jack Rose
Feathers (the one from Miami, all instrumental stuffs, not the freak-folk group from Vermont, unless of course you start liking freak-folk)
Black Mountain
The Bevis Frond
Golden Ball

i reccomend Gregor Samsa and efterklang. while they don't sound much like sigur ros, they have a similar sort of vibe a lot of the time. plus their music is just beautiful.

Alright, sweet. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a lot of these on Demonoid, but I'll keep looking around various other torrent sites. Thanks!

Based on Sigur Ros, I recommend Anathallo, Hope of the States and to a lesser extent, The Mars Volta.

Based on Sigur Ros, I recommend Anathallo, Hope of the States and to a lesser extent, The Mars Volta.

I've heard some of The Mars Volta and they're actually not so terrible. I'm a big fan of RHCP and the guy from TMV did the solo to "Especially In Mighican" which is my favourite song off the new Chili Peppers album.

I will also check out Anathallo and Hope of the States, especially since I've heard that the latter of these two are really good.

You may well have heard that from me. Hope of the States are one of my favourite bands. Unfortunately, their second album is really shit but they have so much great b-side and demo and EP material that they stay in my good books. If you want to break into them, I recommend you start with the songs 'Black Dollar Bills' and 'A Crack Up At The Race Riot.' The former is my favourite of their songs, and its second half is just one four-minute crescendo. It's like an aural orgasm for me.

Do you have a last.fm account?

it makes a list of the bands and songs you've listened to every week and recommends other bands you haven't listened to yet, but are very similar...

it has to be songs youve played on your computer...

I do indeed. My name on there is (gasp!) KimJongSick. Keep in mind that none of the KT Tunstall that was played on there is mine, it's my sister's crap that she put on my computer without asking me. *growl* All the other stuff is mine though ^__^

Here is a quick test which will allow you to determine whether or not you like music.

1. I like The Eagles Of Death Metal - T/F

If you answered T, then congratulations, you like music.
If you answered F, please try again at a later date.

If you like Modest Mouse, and you had fuckin better, then there is a pretty good chance that you will enjoy a band called The Mock Orange They are a liittle easier around the edges than MM, but pretty good!
