QC FORUMS RAP-OFF 2007
« on: 03 Feb 2007, 16:25 »

Hello,
Thanks so much for your interest. Believe me, this is no hoax. I have the utmost confidence in what I am selling. To listen to the guitar melody, just go to: www.myspace.com/ebaymelody. It will be available for you to listen to through friday evening. What you will hear will only be the guitar melody but in my opinion it is not hard to visualize the sounds (and beat) that could accompany it. I personally think strings would sound amazing... perhaps following in the same chord progression as the melody.

Again, the link is: www.myspace.com/ebaymelody

Thanks again for your interest.

Because I'm such a nice guy:  Here is the mp3 of the original loop; right-click and save.  You're all quite welcome!

Somehow this has bloomed into a full blown event. I guess I have no choice but to announce the

:mrgreen:FIRST ANNUAL QC FORUMS RAP-OFF ILL FUNKY-FRESH

RULES:
You have to use the riff.
Post the rap on Box.net (or, if you want to go through the trouble, Myspace).
THERE ARE NO OTHER RULES.

ENTRANTS: (Submitted entries in bold)
MC McGruff The Rhyme Dogg (aka Johnny C)
MC Will
DJ Davros (aka godinpants)
MC Spinless (out on account of coursework)
MC Caspian
MC jcknbl
MC KharBevNor
MC öde
MC Genocide Makeout Katz (aka Kieff)
MC Mary Modern (aka quietnow)
MC Kim-Jong Illin' (aka KimJongSick)
MC Nuggets (aka DynamiteKid)[/s]
MC Andy M (aka mbelassie)
DJ Dr. M (aka thelightguy - I took some liberty with the name)

The new deadline for submitting your entry is the end of the poll. Be warned that people will have already cast votes by the time you get your rap in; however, really everyone just wants to hear you making fun of this guy and his riff.

To determine the winner, who gets nothing except bragging rights (or as such things are called in the rap world, "cred"), we are essentially having a poll. To cast a vote, PM me. All votes must be cast by Sunday, Feb. 18. The winner will be announced on Monday, Feb. 19

Man, I think I went kind of off-concept on this one. Mainly because I have no real idea what raps supposed to sound like, and mainly because the riff was so shit. I ended up feeding into a guitar synth and adding lots of overdriven bass, kick-drums and hoover. Also, my mic is fucked up, and It's late at night so I can't be loud, and I can't rap.

That said, WOOP!

Yeah, yeah, I know. The vocals were all fucked and noisy because for some reason audacitys mic volume is stuck at 1, so I put a bit of overdrive on them, and then my musical vocabulary stuck in and the rest slotted in around that.

Heyo, do I have to PM someone to sign up or can I just post here? I'm going to do something in that seldom-explored territory between technical jazzy black metal and grimy drum & bass. Expect something truly horrendous.

Downloading that now...

Here's the lyrics to mine btw, I realised that they were kinda hard to make out:

Coming at you like a steam locomotive
I rock like a boulder but with no clear motive
I'm addicted to fucking insanity
I'll make you feel more pain than a hamster in a tin of bees

WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP

I'm extremely extreme I play slap-bass with my cock
I don't smoke crack I just suppository the rock
Filth and hatred are my number one export
I once knocked up a panther and refused to pay the child support

WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP

I like little children, but mainly on a spit
I once lived for a week on seawater and road grit
Beating on grandmas is a major hobby
Half a brick in a sock well its better than dobby

I set fire to a firestation just to feel the irony
I agree with Martin Walkyier and rhyme that word with bryony
You don't know what it means that's cos you're a fucking numpty
I'm gonna break you like the wall broke humpty dumpty

WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOP

So you see that I'm mad and bad and dangerous to acknowledge
I'm perverted and psychotic and I got to art college
But there's some things that even I wouldn't do
Me who once flushed a pipe bomb down a disabled loo
And one of those places that I won't go no way
Is selling shit music on fucking ebay

WOOP WOOP WOOP WOOOOOOOP!

I think yours is alot better than mine.

Because it makes sense.

Ive just been messing around with these robot clips in ableton and just put it together in garage band.

I also sampled one of the rhythms from this ancient casio i have.

Edit: just remembered. Sometimes me and a mate go by Dj Davros(me) and Mc Beeblebrox(him) i might be able to get him to rap on this by the end of the week.

Loop however long you want, and I would suggest that you record over it because otherwise it will be tough to rap.

I did mine. It's not rap because I can't do lyrics for SHIT but instead I have created an abominable semi-funk piece of shit that is so horrible that if you don't vote for it I will be made to destroy you.

Does that make sense?

Edit: It would make sense for me to post a bloody link. It's at www.myspace.com/japanesetapdancingbrigade, it's called "Funky EBay". I hate every second of that.

Khar, you are so retarded (like, awesome-retarded). That wasn't a hip-hop song, it just had hip-hop lyrics.  Still, it was funny to hear you shouting stuff about crack and Ebay maniacally over your truly un-hip-hop mix.

I honestly did try and make it a hip hop mix at first, I got a kind of hip hop drum beat (it was kind of hip hop before I dropped all those kick drums over it) but then, well, fuck, lets face it, that riff is something off a Rob Zombie record played in slow-mo by a brain damaged kid, and I don't listen to hip-hop. After a certain point I just had to let it rock.

Actually, it sounds quite a lot like a better produced version of my first band, where I would shout lines like "We smoke like chimneys, we drink like fish, we all snort coke off the bassists tits!" and "Burning churches is softcore, so we shot down Santa Claus!" over riffs and basslines stolen from the Sex Pistols reject bin. Our one solid contribution to the field of musical expression was the guitarist wore themed hats for the different songs.

There definitely aren't enough entries yet. We need this to become a QC phenomenon. Although it probably already has, the contest should be extended quite a bit, as I would like to make one. I just have to finish midterms first.

ok, so i haven't been in the forums for a long time... i log in and see music being made! (so i have to join in the fun!)

i didn't make a a rap beat yet because when i heard the riff i immediately wanted to cut it up and make a simple dance track out of it.

so i took 15 minutes and did.

here it is (on my site)

i hope you dance to the painfully simple melody!

I don't have any means of recording or editing actual audio, so is it cool if I just write some lyrics (because I did one night when I couldn't sleep) and put them up?  I won't "win" anything but whatever.  (I have them at home somewhere, I'll get them up here eventually.)

You know this would be cool if it became like a monthly or so thing.
Where the winner of the previous round would post a collection of short sounds or loops and everyone else had to make something out of it.

Dude, Johnny. Your entry pwns all.

I just realised then. That the chord progression actually spells out GAE at first.

Gin and juice! Gin and juice! Everyone be lovin' gin and juice!
I'll rain down upon you like Robert the Bruce,
Pound you into submissions till you be shouting 'Truce!
Please mister, please mister, I don't want the noose!'
But I won't listen cause I'm fucking obtuse,
My mind is set, you're gonna die
Squirm all you wanna, I'd like to see you try
To escape, my son, you're not so spry,
And you're messing with the fox, that you can't deny,
So whenever I wanna I'll wave you goodbye,
Bury you six feet under for the worms to feast,
That's what you get for messing with the beast.
Should I get you a priest?
Atheist motherfucker you gonna be deceased,
And all because you think you're all that,
Get ready my brother, this is mortal combat
I don't play around when it?s my turn to bat
I'll hit a home run and tip my top-hat
To the ladies in the stands who came to see me
Shaking their asses like it?s the royal jubilee
All them fine ladies, Belle and Marie,
Fine looking bitches, I think you'll agree,
But when they stare at you they is more a banshee,
For all they remind you of is me,
I'm coming for you and I don't deal in remorse
When I bust you I do it straight from the source
With rhymes, not force,
And class, of course,
And I won't stop till don't stop till I cause your divorce,
Cause you missus, I see her glance in my direction
I am the object of her affection,
A fly-ass brother approaching perfection,
And between her and me I feel a connection,
It's deep like the farthest depths of the sea
So I'll lay her down, Marvin Gaye on CD,
And love her all night till her soul it be free
And she be screamin: 'Oooh! Woweee!'
Just like that she's mine, one two three.
Can't you see?
It's over, before it even begun,
Don'?t make me pull out my other gun,
Head down and be gone,
You ain't got no brawn,
You're nothing more than my little pawn,
Bow down before me, I'm your Zeus!
A glass in my hand of gin and juice! Gin and juice! Everyone be lovin' gin and juice!

So I gave the cookies you made to Fawn and the kids, and they couldn't believe it. They were delicious. But I digress... Tremble, puny Earthlings! One day my race will destroy you all!
