I remember being extremely excited for Jade Empire, enough so that I pre-ordered it to go the Limited Edition version. I thoroughly enjoyed the game, beating it in short order, and promptly forgetting its existence. It just seemed kind of 'meh' when I was all done. Unremarkable in the literal sense of the word: not worth remarking about.

UNTIL LAST NIGHT (cue dramatic music)

Drunk and frustrated by Final Fantasy II for the last time, I looked through my game collection for another RPG to take my mind off this cursed thing we call 'the real world.' "Hey, Jade Empire," I thought to myself, "this game was good and I remember very little about it." Turns out once I got past all the expectations and hype, it's just a good little computer-style RPG that isn't so much underrated as it is under discussed. Even if the game can be boiled down to "the Star Wars KOTOR series only set in ancient China with magic and demons and martial arts" I think it was a thankful oasis in the inarguably RPG-lite Xbox lineup.

Something between the score and being a totally badass martial arts master without really trying (a very easy game, all in all) just hits the spot, y'know?
I WAS the line for opening day at my local game store.  Good times.

I remember playing it and thoroughly loving it, even so far as to beat it a few times just to see the different endings

I actually bought it recently because I did not own an X-Box, but I have a 360 and it is backwards compatible. However, I didn't realize you have to download the backwards compatibility software for each game individually and therefore I can't play it since my 360 isn't online right now.

Is it bad that I can never play "evil?"  Somehow, it really hurts me when I kill a kid's father, and just the thought of killing off Chai Ka made me feel queasy.

i loved jade empire, it was simple but a lot of fun. and the fact that you get to have a 3some with 2 hot(as hot as animated females can be) chicks right before the final huge battle, classic.

KOTOR, actually, it was painfully easy to be evil.  Everyone was similar looking, and they made silly noises when you smack them.
I don't know why that makes a difference, but it does.

I beat Jade Empire not tooooo long ago, it was a pretty decent game.
Played through most of the game walking a fine line between good and bad and near the end turned on everyone, killing everyone it'd let me - and then yeah. Beat the game. And was evil.

Hope they make a sequel. Was pretty good.

yeah if you romance them equally, when you get to the tent camp out scene you totally get a manageatrois(no i dont know how to spell it)

and i think if your charcter is a guy you can actually still hook up with the blue dude, sky?

yeah, but I do not think they actually show the kiss, instead the are about to and right before they actually do it ends

I'm like that in most video games, really.  I have a hard time playing a truly evil character in most RPGs that give you a choice.  I'm just not the strong-arm thug type of evil, which you have to be in most video games in order to be classified as "evil."

I actually played Jade Empire before I played KOTOR, so the plot twist severely caught me off-guard.  The one in KOTOR was way better, though.  I still didn't see that one coming even though I'd grown accustomed to major plot twist devices now.

Yeah!  Exactly!  Like in Fable, you have to go around killing children and eating small baby animals in order to cancel out the good that you do by killing the "bad" monsters.
