If someone criticises your taste in music you probably rationalise your opinions. You probably think things like, "well it's my opinion so it can't be wrong," or, "it's not hurting anyone." This is a mental self-defense mechanism and it's only making things worse.
I can't blame you for thinking that when you decide to listen to My Chemical Romance that it doesn't affect me, but the truth is, it does. Not only does your purchase of their album fuel their publicity, and so the amount of time I see things relating to them in public, it means you're likely to make it obvious that you listen to them. "Have you heard this band called MCR? They're really cool." I don't want to hear that ever again, likewise I don't want to hear you talking about how hot they are or singing their lyrics. Surely it's a breach of the peace or some form of torture, and that's illegal in most countries where MCR are popular.
Not only do I have to put up with hearing about them, I have to hate you. No-one that likes music likes My Chemical Romace, they're like chalk and cheese. You're only doing yourself harm by liking, or pretending to like them. You could be spending time listening to a band that has musical or artistic talent. A song with a message that isn't, "buy this."
You should have some consideration for poor Gerard Way too. He's almost 30 and he thinks he has a job as a real musician.
