No one on this board would call that hardcore, to my knowledge. However, I like the first full length of all three of those bands.  Really, though, Alexisonfire and BNO are hardly even imaginably hardcore.  Really.

I was a fan of the Buffalo hardcore stuff back when I was growing up.  Like Snapcase and what not.  Boy Sets Fire used to play around there all the time too.  Both those bands either "sold out" and stopped being considered hardcore or stopped making music as far as I remember though.

3750 is much better, though there's way too much filler.  It may as well be an EP.  Either way, the three guitarists definatly made that band.

Not much a fan of the modern hardcore, aka metalcore with scream accompaniment.  Scene kids make me wanna light the pope on fire.  I like the old hardcore, a la Dead Kennedys, much more.  But the musical suckery and derivativeness and all around cloning that goes on nowadays is not my piece of cake.  Oh granted, there are a few good ones out there, but for the most part, I'd rather listen to my grandparents having sex.

Modern hardcore is a lot of things and I don't think it is fair to simply equal it with metalcore. That would be disregarding bands like Haram, Amanda Woodward, Baroness, City of Caterpillar, Akimbo, Envy, Kylesa etc. Granted they do not sound exactly like old-school hardcore(or emo/screamo for that matter) but I would attribute that to simple evolution and a willingness to experiment. Baroness and Kylesa are good examples of mixing metal with hardcore + more which doesn't end up sounding anything like Killswitch Engage or others. In my opinion the hardcore and hardcore-related scene is more vibrant than ever, you just have do a little digging.

I haven't heard much worthwhile hardcore, but believe it or not.. it does exist!

Walls of Jericho, Killwhitneydead, and Poison The Well. Killwhitneydead is more grindcore.. but it counts.

I don't know, I've always liked Poison The Well. You Come Before You was a fun album, if not seminal (did you guys know seminal also means "consisting of semen?"). It's difficult to toss out hardcore recommendations, because the genres around that particular influence have been muddled far too much.

--I would definitely recommend Alexisonfire: all of their albums are pretty accessible, but Crisis is just a continuation of Watch Out!.
--Fear Before The March Of Flames. I recommend this to everyone. Very experimental, and The Always Open Mouth is absolutely fantastic.
--At The Drive-In and Fugazi. Duh.
--Converge! You will not like Converge on the first, or tenth, listen. Once you like them, you love them.
--Bear vs Shark. I like Bear vs Shark. You should too.
--These Arms Are Snakes. If you like FBtMoF, you might like TAaS. You might not.
--The Sounds Of Animals Fighting. Actually worse than Converge for inaccessibility. Good stuff though.
--Blood Brothers. Ditto above.

I still say 7 Angels 7 Plagues defined the (at the very least) midwest metalcore/hardcore sound.  The best recommendation I could think to give.

Noooooo. Crisis is a sonic step backwards, and honestly they're worse off for it. If you're going to listen to AOF, the best thing to do is start with the self-titled, go to Watch Out! and then maybe venture to Crisis if you're feeling brave. It's not a really bad record but it's by no means as good as either of the prior two.

You do know that bands can be in a genre and also be experimental, right?

yes, but they just don't strike me as a hardcore band...at all, i shouldn't really be talking about the Blood Brothers, i haven't heard much of them, but i wouldn't say The Sound of Animals Fighting are a hardcore band...

I'm going to jump in on mocking the statement "if it has breakdowns and chuggs, it's hardcore".

I would really never consider Saosin, Alexisonfire, Emery, etc.  hardcore at all.  I guess maybe it was, like, 500th wave screemo or something, but I would never lump any band that's basically hard and melodic with occasional screaming into the hardcore genre.

And Saosin stopped being relevant when Anthony Green quit that band.  I really could never figure out why they kept going.  Circa Survive really isn't much better either. Too bad, cause Seven Years was just a really, really good song.

The Acacia Strain - The Dead Walk

You should probably have this by now.
This is probably the crappiest "hardcore" release I've heard in the last year. Jugga jugga does not hardcore make.

And with such excellent hardcore out there (MLIW, Sinking Ships, Doom Riders etc) why would you even listen to this? I get the feeling "The Acacia Strain" was a nu-metal band previously.
