This band was fucking amazing until I grew up and realize how hypocritical they were.

p.s. Audioslave sucks but I feel too bad to tell my sister and brother in law this fact.

I dunno, Audioslave don't have the agression of RATM but I like their groove anyway.

Rage Against the Machine was one of those 'Sell MTV kids back their own rebellion against us' bands.

But their music wasn't all that bad. Pretty damn good for mainstream.

Initially I was pissed off about their reforming but RATM were a decent band that politically motivated a lot of kids and made arguably decent music. So they turned Che Guavera into "that guy from the Rage shirt." I doubt that was their intent.

If they go out on tour after this though then they damn well better put out a new album.

Rage Against the Machine's first album had some pretty good riffs in it. I think Tom Morello's a pretty good guitarist who has been in a couple of vehicles that don't really show his talent as much as they could.

I'm not as into them as I was three years ago, but I still put on Evil Empire from time to time. And I think Renegades is a fantastic covers album.

As for the whole hypocrisy thing, I don't really give a crap, although I laughed my arse off at John Safrans rant about the radio edit of Killing in the Name of.

I was kind of disappointed when I found out Zak De La Roche didn't go to fight fascists in the South American rainforest after they broke up though. I kind of imagined him with a Bowie knife between his teeth, muttering "Fuck you, I wont do what you tell me" right before he cut a guys throat.

I found out about the Weathermen because of them.. specifically my dad read the lyrics on the sleeve of the tape I had and asked me if I knew what they meant by "like a motherfucking Weatherman" ... I thought I was going to get a lecture on the swearing, but no...

Whatever RATM intended, they were happily absorbed into the music market along with everything else. Not really sure what an artist who is anti-capitalism can really do to attempt to effect change (as opposed to just steer clear of it themselves) .. shock as a tactic is a happy dynamic of the marketplace already, but what does that mean is left? Subversion? Hm.

I also found out about the Weatherman through looking up what Nevermore were singing about in the song "Timothy Leary" actually, so yeah music teaches you stuff...

Just noticed this thread because, seeing as I live in the middle of fucking nowhere, I don't get the latest news on things I like.

I'm pretty sad Audioslave broke up. They were my favorite "living" band (as in, still producing music and such).

I would be happy about RATM getting back together except for the fact something I liked a lot better than the original had to end in order for it to happen.

I liked Soundgarden more than Audioslave.

When it comes to RATM, I have always appreciated the musicians but really didn't like De La Rocha. Soundgarden, I'd always appreciated the vocals more than the rest of the band. Audioslave worked for me quite well.

While Black Sabbath was better than Ozzy all around, my favorite songs that Ozzy's ever done were during his solo career. *shrugs*

I think that quite a lot of that is done ironically to take the piss out of people like that. I know I certainly do it.

That is probably the perfect way to say it and I agree whole-heartedly. And Dio in Rainbow was pretty awesome.

Crazy Train was the single Ozzy released after parting ways from Black Sabbath that established his career as a solo artist, actually.

Amusingly, I started this thread when I was rip roaringly drunk after seeing a thread about Rage Against The Machine. I had planned on starting a thread after I made this one called "Rage Against Raging Against Rage Against The Machine" about how it's pointless and hypocritical for me to hate Rage because I really liked them a few years ago and still think they're good. But as is the wont of a man intoxicated, I promptly forgot.
