Anyone else played this at all?

It's the un-official sequel to Total Annihlation.
All that needs to be said really.

Considering it's not out yet, I'm pretty sure nobody's played it. It's being released on Wednesday, I believe.

It looks great, but I'm not going to overhaul my PC just to play it.

I have a copy, but my PC keeps crashing while installing it, which is sucky. However, from what I can tell from the demo, the game is ridiculously complicated and will take a long time to get used to and enjoy for what it is. That is, if it is good at all.

IGN's review is here. Normally I'm not a huge fan of IGN's reviews, but Gamespot's probably won't be up until tomorrow night.

Gamespot does, however, have a lengthy demo of the game by the lead designer Chris Taylor on the most recent episode of On the Spot. The specific episode is 2/15/07, and the Supreme Commander part starts at around the 13 minute mark, if you're impatient.

They also play Def Jam: Icon with the level pulsating to Depeche Mode. Which is totally awesome

I have the demo of the game, and am definately grabbing a copy as soon as it's available here in Calgary.

It's got incredible strategic depth, but this comes with a massive learning curve. It's incredibly easy to learn, and unimaginably difficult to master.

I'll probably be playing it all the way through Spring Break. /fanboy.

My PC isn't nearly up to snuff to play this but here is a pretty decent review from AtomicPC.

I've got my copy installed now, and have played a couple of the levels in the single-player campaign. So far, it appears to be a pretty good game with lots of longeivity. However, the game is pretty complicated and each map/level/mission lasts ages, and right now I'm finding there's a lot of waiting around while you build up your base and army. But then, I've never been good at RTS' so there's probably something I should be doing that I'm not.

Rule of thumb: BUILD MORE.

The nature of SC's economy is that you can potentially create an infinite amount of resources, at a speed limited only by the space available to you.
Nothing's stopping you (in the campaign) from building shitloads of Power Generators, Mass Fabricators, and Factories to produce more, faster.

In multiplayer, it's much, much tougher.

That makes sense. On the level I'm on at the moment (I think it's the third UEF mission) my army is simply not powerful enough to complete what appears to be a very easy objective. I guess I just need more ships and planes.

TA (and I assume SupComm too) is all about managing rates. You just have to watch the rate of your resources coming in and keep the rate you're using them as high as possible without going too far into the red for too long. Hoarding will get you nowhere (and metal makers are the best things ever for making sure that your balance is nice, have a bunch of them and toggle them to maximise your metal output when you have excess energy income). I just spent all my money on a shiny shiny laptop so my budget's not stretching far enough to pick up a copy but I'll be leaving the demo downloading overnight and hopefully getting pretty seriously into it.

got it, played it, love it.

The campaign mode's good, but it really comes alive in skirmish mode.

Fact is, these aren't "skirmishes", these are gargantuan wars across entire continents. thousands of troops, ships and planes clash and annihilate each other, and it's rare for the few survivors of these battles to have the numbers and power left over to hope to overcome the massive defensive networks around the enemy base.

plus, it has dual-monitor support, allowing you to throw a tactical map up on your second screen for the sake of maintaining a complete battlefield overview. Awesome stuff.

plus, the explosions are purdy.

Got it, Love it, only one thing I utterly hate about it...

Normally get around 2 frames per second when there's more than 100 units around, my beloved AthlonXP compy may well be taken out to a field and shot as I have schemed to do many a time... but not after I have a new compy... does remind me of TotalA alot, since I had the exact same issues with my first PC, and Totala multiplayer, which meant I couldn't enjoy Boneyards at all for the short amount of time it was around :/
