Nostalgia Overload!

While looking for the name of an old NES game (Shadowgate) I stumbled across this site

I had forgotten how awesome some of those games were.

Man, the worst part about that list is all of the ones that I didn't own.

I had completely forgotten about Wizards and Warriors though. And fucking DuckTales!

That site makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Two games i loved that I forgot about: Crystalis (FUCK ME YES) and Xantha or what they called it.  Both harder than shit too.

Rampage was the fucking shit back in the day. The fact you had infinite continues, I think, made it fantastic.

Some of the games they listed suck ass, though. Roger Rabbit is a steaming turd. Mega Man 6?? Terrible. The first Turtles game?? Hard as rock balls. THE ROBIN HOOD GAME?! A Boy and his Fucking Retarded, I Hate This Game Blob.

It's like they made a list and let nostalgia determine the ranking rather than the actual quality of the game. I thought Battletoads was amazing as a kid, but now it's impossibly hard dogshit.

I agree completely but I like ranking them based on Nostalgia.  I'm a sucker like that.

Best post in this forum ever. Bravo, JJ.

On the other hand, this helped me remember a lot of the NES games I used to play. Like, I totally had Adventure Island 2 but had no idea what the fuck that game was called now that I don't have my NES anymore.

I should kill my mom for making me sell that thing.

My NES is still hooked up, but I've gotten to the point in all my games, either I can beat them easily, or I can easily get to a certain point then run into a brick wall so it's not fun anymore.

I loved the general NES style though.  They were 100% gameplay oriented.  They didn't have the technology for style, so the games were all substance.

Overall the list is pretty comprehensive.  With the major exception of the INSANE exclusion of Ninja Gaiden III, the easy best of the NES trilogy.

Ninja Gaiden II was super-easy except for the last bosses, and all of Ninja Gaiden I's difficulty came from sadistic traps like throwing bats out the second you jump across a hole.  Ninja Gaiden III is the only entry in the series that's hard without cheating, and the game mechanics just work better than in I and II.

Am I the only one who prefers the SNES over the NES? I have never found the appeal, but I loved my SNES to death.

The NES and SNES were both fantastic systems, in my opinion. If you put a gun to my head and forced me to pick a system, I'd probably pick the SNES, though.

Now now folks this isn't about which is better but the Nostalgia that is inspired by the NES.

If you can find a similiar link for the SNES that would rock.

Thank god bubble bobble was in the top ten.

Why did they stop making those games?

SNES vs NES....wow that's hard.

I might slightly give the edge to SNES if only because of Zelda 3, Super Metroid, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI.

I think that they did quite well on their list.  In the modern age of ROMness, it's pretty much guaranteed that any gamer worth their papier mache art class Triforce has played nearly every one of those games, and owned at least fifty percent of them.  I think I saw maybe fifteen games on that list that I haven't owned at one time or another, including Bill and Ted.  Their choice for the Top Ten was well done, though I would personally contest SMB 3 being #1, but that's just me.

BTW, after reading this list, I bookmarked the site and I've been looking through it- brilliant!  Lots of, like, really funny game reviews and things.

The NES wins if we're talking sheer, bloody nostalgia and "hey-do-you-like-my-rose-colored-glasses-Nintendo-is-awesome" memories. The SNES is the far superior system gamewise in every genre. There are only a handful of NES games I consider fun to play anymore because so many of the concepts in NES games are done much better on the SNES. For a simple example, RPGs on the NES are so fucking primitive compared to even early 16 bit RPGs it's ridiculous.

The original thread idea was 'sheer, bloody nostalgia'.

I'd agree that the SNES is much better than the NES except for nostalgia.
