Talk about Gundam.  I know I already made an anime thread, but there wasn't a whole lot about Gundam in it.

Does anyone like any of the Gundam series?  If so, what's your favorite sub-series or whatever?  What was good, what was bad, etc.

I've only seen Mobile Fighter G Gundam, and the Gundam Wing Movie Endless Waltz.  I liked both.  Although i missed a huge middle chunk of G Gundam, and i think i missed the end as well.

I really want to see the first series.  Mobile Suit Gundam.  As well as the Gundam Wing series.

To be honest, though Gundam Wing gets a lot of flak nowadays, I thought it was pretty cool when I watched it on TV. I was around 13 years old, though. Take that as you will. The only other series I've seen from is 08th MS Team. I only saw a few episodes, but it looked like it had some depth to it.

The Gundam series gets old fast, like a game with little replayability;

8th MS team was my favorite in a visual aspect, the animation looked great... I can't watch it now... The story seems bland.

It was cool when I was about 13 or so, I tried watching Seed a while back and it seems like the same recycled plot with different characters...

Then there is mobile Fighter G Gundam, or what I like to nickname the "stereotypical series" where a gundam from canada looks like a lumberjack, the iceland one looks like a viking, and then there's the gay one...

Lmao, yeah, G Gundam was pretty stereotypical.  But it's a breath of fresh air for the series.  I guess i never noticed it before, but the plot does seem rehashed for each new series.  I guess that's why i want to watch the original.

I also love how sappy the ending episode to G Gundam is.

I have always loved the Gundam series and have fond memories of sitting on my couch and watching it with my friends.  The thing that always struck me as odd about the American release of the series is that they started with the newest, Gundam Wing, and then decided to start from the very first series that really only die hard gundam fans would watch as the animation was poor compared to Gundam Wing.

I have loved every series leading up to Gundam Wing and I even enjoyed the Fighter Gundam series, that is until I started to see the blatant stereotypes and racism that has been talked about before.  I mean c'mon, the mexican one was a freakin cactus that wore a sombrero

I liked G Gundam a lot, actually.  The whole gladiatorial arena thing was actually different for a Gundam series.  Usually, the plot is pretty much the same as every other space age/giant robot anime plot (large coporation/empire has a big brother thing going on and rebels fight back in order to preserve free thought or liberty or whatever such nonsense.)

I love the giant robots, but I wish there was more to it as multiple series.

That's not the entire plot to G Gundam though.  Domon searches for his brother, who stole their dad's prototype "ultimate gundam", and then began wreaking throughout the system.  But then, his brother steals his love intrest, Rain, and so Domon has to save her from the grip of the Dark Gundam/Kyoji.  Thus, the whole sappy ending, which i think has a message of maybe "Love conquers all."  But that's just my point of view.

I think the reason it didn't seem to really match the linear plot structure is because it was not made by the original crew, it was written by another group... hmm the more you know...

That said I could barely watch through the entire series after seeing this...

Windmills don't seem very conducive to combat.

I loved Gundam Stardust cause it had a Gundam that could shoot a nuclear missle

no lasers or other shitty projectiles, a fucking nuke.  then he had a shield to protect himself from it

Best.  Gundam.  Ever.

The Gundams from Gundam Wing, were easily the coolest looking Gundams ever.

Indeed. I think Gundam Wing deserves almost all the aformentioned flak it gets (I mean, nearly every character is some kind of Mary Sue, and many episodes are just fight scenes of the exact same type), but DAMN did it have some sweet mechs. The second Tallgeese, the Deathscythes, and the two sorta-Gundams the scientists made were all really sweet as well.
