Here's hoping world of Diablo. But they take all the carebear and singleplayer from world of warcraft and switch it out for hardcore and pvp.

My money is on some kind of Starcraft game. It's the only series they haven't done a sequel for, and they WERE supposed to have that Starcraft: Ghost game for the last generation.

Sure, it's not official yet, but why would they make a teaser site for Starcraft 2 and not for Warcraft 4 or Diablo 3 if they wanted to throw people off?

They registered that site years ago.

The countdown to announcing Starcraft: Ghost was on it. Believe me, that was a pretty big disappointment.

I don't see why that matters. Why would they put something there relating to their announcement if the announcement had nothing to do with Starcraft? I think the only question now is whether it's a second RTS or an MMO.

I would most likely completely enjoy a new Starcraft game, no matter what genre.

I'm not a wizard and elves kind of gamer... so a Starcraft MMO would definitely appeal to me.

I do enjoy a good RTS... an updated version of SC as an RTS would be awesome.

Because, clearly, Blizzard's track record with RTSes shows that trend.

Option 1: It's yet another typical Blizzard rts. Umm, kinda hard to get excited about when we've already got two major ones. Everyone who wants new and interesting thinks it sucks.

Option 2: It trys to break new ground and all the people who were after a something similar, but shiny think it sucks.

They cannot win. And, since my money is on option 1 and I was never really a fan of blizzard rtses, I cannot win. So it gets a 'meh' from me.

Man, seriously, why do people keep saying Blizzard will make a World of StarCraft or World of Diablo? You people are idiots! The common playing base for these games is much too similar to host multiple MMO's, and most people who would be interested in either are probably already playing WoW. Why would Blizzard cannibalise their own profits?

Starcraft II does look like it'll be a good game. I wasn't ever a big RTS fan but I concede that they're well-made games and whenever I turned on Warcrafts I-III or Starcraft they were fun to play. If Blizzard takes the storytelling abilities which they've developed through Warcrafts III and World Of, applies it to Starcraft II and combines it with the already well-written Starcraft universe we're probably looking at what sequels really should be, i.e. improved graphics, matured storytelling and improved interface. It is kind of silly to shit all over it.

I think the thing which annoys me most is that Starcraft II's existence was the worst-kept secret in games.

I am pretty stoked for Starcraft 2, actually. I haven't owned a Blizzard game since Brood War (I just don't have a gaming-quality PC), but I feel that Starcraft had the best-written fiction of any of the Blizzard properties, and I am really excited to see what happens next. Of course, Blizzard has one of the best track records of any developer, so it's safe to say the gameplay will be outstanding. I may not be much of a PC gamer or a RTS player, but I will make exceptions to both for Starcraft 2.

However, I am going to be a heathen and say I am more excited for the upcoming Super Smash Brothers Brawl announcement. In fact, I think I am going to go dig up the thread.

There is one thing about this announcement that's disappointing me:

Three races. I'm not saying that the three are inadequate. In a vacuum, I'm perfectly okay with just those three returning. But that's not how the end of Brood Wars set it up. I really hope they're just keeping the plans and existence of the fourth race a secret for now.

Brood War set up diddly squat. Look at the Burning Legion (or the Naga to a certain extent) in WarCraft III; this was a faction that was important to the story and it was not a playable race. The Naga were playable only in missions, not in online play and do not count as "a playable race" (One could make the same argument for the Chaos Orcs).

I think the choice to keep it to just the three classic races was a smart one. Three factions is fine. Besides, these races mesh very well together and already have an established identity, but there is still so much potential. What's the use of introducing new races if the old ones can still be explored further? It took three warcrafts to get more than two races; StarCraft already has three.

There's also the fact that StarCraft is such a widely popular online game. This puts Blizzard in an awkward position because while some people would dig a new race, anything that fucks with the very succesful online play formula would be bad because most people would hate it. Making a 'not playable' race easily solves this problem.

I do think we'll see quite a bit of the xel'naga and their new hybrid children this time around. The thought of psionically enhanced zerglings is rather terrifying. As for playable... probably not. I imagine them as being like the burning legion in wc3; too powerful to play.

Blizzard has gone on the record and said explicitly that the three races from the original will be the only playable ones in the game.

Can we make this the 'only' Starcraft 2 thread? I mean, I know it's a big game, but 3 threads seems a little excessive.
