Awww he looks so angry but so squishy and huggable!

Finally someone else decided to post here again!  I have missed this thread.

I just finished a portrait of me at 9 months for my mother's birthday.  I'm such a cheapskate (but wasn't I adorable!).  It took me forever, I think I went a little bit blind.

This is two different versions of a sketch I did on the Intuos last night.  As you can see, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the mouth, probably won't get it right until I ink and color.

Here is my picture I had been working on at the time of the Ali-sketch.  I spent like 7-8 hours on this, and alot of that time was spent on the goddamn ballet shoes.  I am pretty pleased with it though. even if it is completely obvious I am horrible at backgrounds!

Also Nonbaka, that guy looks intense.

nonbaka, how do you work in mspaint and not go insane?  Very nice work, especially for being made in paint.

Ebony, the only reason I would think the background would be out of place is the break of what looks like a tree on very left to a gentle slope.  Otherwise, it looks good.  Nice detail work on the stitching and the ballet slippers.

So this is probably the best thing I have drawn to date, because of how excellently the face shading turned out.  Its supposed to be Amber Benson (Tara from Buffy) but it doesn't really look like her.  But it still counts as something I am super proud of anyway!

@ebony:
Did you draw that on one or several layers? It looks awesome!, but I noticed some small flaws that occur mostly when drawing on a single layer Oo

And now:
Time for a drawing, everyone...

After a long time of not doing that, I wanted to draw something more related to myself again...
So I drew myself and chizzled the whole thing up with photoshop... ^^

Terrible? You don't have to be.
Annoy you? They don't have to.
It's amazing you maintained that attitude... I was always told to "MASTER YOUR LAYERS-thefuk!" first and obtain skillZ later. Oh well, many ways leading to Rome, I see Oo
That said, I like looking at your realistic pictures. Like the style =)

These are two digital works of mine. I am thinking about making the scheme (b&w <-> vivid colours) one of my things, cuz' I actually like those. (a rare thing for me)

I like this thread and don't think it should die.

@Hannah - those are amazing. The hand/bird one especially reminds me of some of Lupen Crook & the Murderbirds' aesthetics.

The following two sketches are from some point last month. Permanent ink pen, plus ink, plus crappy paper. Yeah, I do have a preferred angle for faces or face-like things, and I don't let that bother me when I'm just knocking sketches out in sequence.

.........

Also I have no scanner.

It was originally drawn on A4 paper. I can't remember what sort of pens, but going by my usualy habits it was probably Staedtler Pigment Liners between 0.05 - 0.2 thickness - been using those for 3 years and have never been tempted to change to anything else for works of this sort (though they are expensive and I do tend to wear down the nibs quite quickly).

I refuse to believe anyone who says they can't draw like that, because all it is is completely letting go of your head, and drawing in a stream-of-consciousness style that's composed of your hands almost instinctively drawing lines and dots and shapes. I find it's basically the best way to relax, though I haven't really taken the time to do so in a long while. I probably should.

I know the purpose and I know the "technique", but I have a hard time even drawing clear lines when I am not thinking ^^
My strongest moments are when I exactly know what I want to draw and can think about every line beforehand.

Letting go of my head almost always results in weird, grungy, restless linework, never in drawings as clear and complex as yours up there.

Here is an example of how grungy my traditional drawings are (when not using a reference) even when I do plan ahead:

I drew this during lunch really quickly (I almost got pizza sauce on it more than once), but I like how it turned out:

It was my friend's birthday this week.  She is as Alice in Wonderland orientated as me.  So I drew her an Alice-themed picture.  The background is crap, because backgrounds and I don't get along.  But Alice looks totally adorable.  I like how she is all greyscale and outlined so SHE DOESNT FIT IN GUYS.  WONDERLAND IS NOT FOR HER.

But then again, I used to dress like the bastard child of a drug-addled punk and a shrubbery.

I draw stuff sometimes, too.

Like this:

I changed it a bit, the other day, but I keep forgetting to upload the new version when I'm in class.

And sometimes, I use the pen tool on Photoshop to layer shapes and make things.

Like this:

Also, the quote from that drawing up above is from the song "You Are" by Built to Spill.

Just a few pictures of some of my friends I've drawn, I'm still pretty bad, but I'm trying to improve on it, my major issue is that I have very shaky hands and I'm pretty bad at drawing gently.

Anyways, posted in order they were drawn, several months between the two, each took about 2 hours to complete.
