Beastmouth:

--- Quote from: atimholt on 13 Feb 2009, 15:56 ---EDIT: holy crap guys, I just found out that the company G&L exists. About all I know is Fender and Gibson (and I've seen Ibanez, and my dad has a couple Taylor acoustics), so the concept of Leo Fender founding another guitar company blows my mind. Are they any good? Do their (current) guitars appreciate in value as much (or better) than Fender? Do they even sell them at Guitar Center?

Actually, G & L is Leo Fender's third company.  His second was Music Man.  (I've got a 2 10" 65W Music Man version of the Twin Reverb; it's loud as hell and dirtier than a Fender Twin and completely awesome.)  Neither of these companyies is going to have the same presence as Fender at any chain store, and they're less common at local music stores too, IME.  I don't know what you mean exactly about appreciation; neither company was around in the '60s, so when the vintage guitar craze started in the '90s, their instruments weren't 'the real thing' that Beck, Hendrix, Dale, &c. would have used, so prices didn't go completely apeshit or anything.  However, they are very well-made American electric instruments, and they'll hold value as well or better than most contemporary American factory Fenders.

G&Ls are awesome.  Even Tributes, which are the G&L value line, are awesome.

I would take it in to a small, independent music store.  They might be able to help you out, if they do any amplifier servicing.  I know that where I live (Minnesota) we have a really fantastic place called Savage Audio which would totally be able to help you out.

imapiratearg:
Yeah, I'd go to some local guitar/amp shops nearby and ask if they do amp services, and then see if they'll give you a hand.

That is a pretty sick amp, by the way.

@atimholt

I have a carvin tube amp from the 80's that is really similar to yours. I think the model is an XV112. Supposedly, Carvin just used Mesa guts. If that's the case, your amp might be the same as mine, just with a different name on it. Mine's 100 watts, all tube, with a built in equalizer. Unfortunately, it's in the shop, but when I get back, I can check the fuse and see what kind it is, or if Carvin sells replacement parts.

atimholt:
Thanks. I guess I really need to just take it in someplace. I'll see.

I'm starting to fall in love with g&l. I've read nothing but love for them. Of course, I want to get a Megatar next of all.
But if I got a regular guitar, it'd maybe be the g&l s-500. I'd started to fall in love with strats when I discovered g&l, and I like the added features the s-500 has over the legacy. I like their headstock too. I've got a Squier strat now, and those have got that enormous 70's style headstock which seems to want to detach and become its own instrument. Seriously, it's practically its own guitar body.
