The Guitar Topic
Ballard:
Better they run out of ideas and put out an ok looking guitar (for some strange reason I dig the red pick-up covers) than run out of ideas and just jack the prices up on all their American-made shit again.
NotAFanOfFenders:
It's also better than their holy (holey?) line. those things are only 70% the original guitar, yet they go for 300 dollars more than the standard explorer.
Ballard:
Re: Gibson's new ideas, I have to admit, I kind of dig the SG Diablo.
Headwoünd:
"3-D top"? The nerve of some marketing people... -.-
But it looks really nice. I'd swap the gold hardware with black though.
A Wet Helmet:
Decisions, decisions...
Alright, my first guitar was an 86 or 87 red-and-white hard tail strat. I played it for awhile, and sometime in 88 or 89 I traded it in for an SG, which I pawned in 91 for tattoo and booze money.
Anyway... those two guitars are my "Damn, I wish I still had that guitar" guitars, and my local shop has a beat-to-hell 84 red and white hard tail strat for sale. I know the mid-eightes are hardly desirable collector years for Fenders, but something about that well played strat makes me wish I still had my first one. Given that I already own a few strats, that I rarely play them, and that it is a CBS-era Fender, I can't decide if I want to go plunk the money down on it or not (especially since I don't much care for the neck profile) But something about it is calling me...
*shrug* Maybe I'll have another strat tomorrow.
If you had a fat grip of cash right now, would you buy an old-but-not-vintage strat? Just curious.
