For some odd reason, that Gibson actually looks good next to that dude's outfit. Guitars don't look good next to that kind of outfit. I am intrigued.

I know right?  I had just come home from something formal and was like, no, need to rokk now!

Also, interesting fact, the blue with chrome version isn't even mentioned on a lot of purchase sites.  weird...

I hate Parkers.  At least the P42.  My friend has one.  I really don't like the pickups.  'Course, those are changeable.

All the P series are Meh!

Nitefly's on the other hand are awesome.

I know there 'int much love for strats here, but I'd like to ask, what singlecoil sets you guys are fond of?

I need a new set for my new strat. My Highway 1 has the mighty powerful 69's Custom Shop PU's, and it spits out a massive low-end, specially stringed with 10-52's.

My other strat is stringed with 9-42, and I want a more clean, high treble, sparkling mediums, glassy tone. The more usual strat sound. I'm thinking Custom Shop 54 PU's, or SSL-1's from Seymour Duncan. Thoughts?

Seymour Duncan's site is actually really helpful. A good rule of thumb that somebody taught me about a year ago: the more wire around the magnet, the higher the output. The other thing about that, though, is that it really spanks out the mids and the bass.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think that may have something to do with why bass guitars played through guitar-specific amps = overdriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive.

Yeah, I wish Fender PU's would have the kind of samples Seymour Duncan offers.

I still want to test drive some Texas Specials... if they're good enough for SRV... though they might give the bluesy, ballsy tone my Highway 1 currently has, and I already have 2 very similar guitars, I don't need very similar tones.

I really like the current pickups on the guitar, which I assume, are loosely based on the 1954 guitar, since it's a 1954 replica. But the output is kind of shitty, and I think the highs arent as clear as they could be.

More testing is a-required.

EDIT: What about Kinman MK-II pickups? They sound they're exactly what I've been longing for. 260$ plus shipping from USA make me die a little inside. Maybe later this year, I already toasted like, 700 bucks yesterday.

That's pretty much all I can tell you, man. For the truly hardcore, you could remove a couple turns of the wiring on the pickups you've got on her right now. Drops the output slightly, but the highs will be nice and shiny.

You could always go to your amp, turn up the treble a bit, and drop the bass and mids. That's what I do with my SG. I like her to be nice and midsy, don't get me wrong, but I also like a lot of higher-band definition.

It sure sounds good on my 1954 Replica Strat. Besides, if it isn't original, which I'm pretty darned sure it is, I just got a better fake than the original. It's all american, with the american neck (real slim and smooth I might add), great electronic, great pickups, perfect bridge...

I'm not saying it's not a Fender...just that if they're gonna call it a '54, they might as well get historically accurate.

Though, wait..40th anniversary? That's what..'94? Who knows what anyone was thinking in the 90s.

Yeah it's a 94 guitar.

It totally rocks though, had it make a setup yesterday. Guy who did it used to restore Fender Relics in Portugal and Spain.

It's even better now, it sounds freaking amazing, best Fender I've ever played (and that's saying a lot).

I personally own a Hohner LX 250 G, which is a Les Paul knockoff, and I can confidently say it is the single best guitar I have ever played. I can't imagine these guitars have much of a rep because Hohner make accordians (I think), but the sound it makes is just terrifying because even the slightest touch leaks through to create a chaotic storm of noise with minimal effort. I'm a C+ guitarist at best but this guitar makes me at least 50% better, and it cost me £60. All I'm trying to say is that the guitar itself doesn't matter, just how well it suits you, and expensive stuff isn't necessarily better, for example I have seen at least 5 60's Les Pauls in shops that have clearly twisted necks.

I got a Dean Vendetta, it's a pretty nice guitar. It's not a typical, angular, Dean guitar; more of a traditional shape. It has dual humbuckers, a rosewood fingerboard and it sounds really warm. It was quite cheap, a really good deal actually, although if I had enough money, I would go for a really good guitar, ideally a Fender Tele or Mustang, or Gibson SG. Those are my all-time favourite guitar models.  :-)

Also I got a really beat-up old Fender Sidekick amp, you have to be careful with it because it can make hella noise if you turn up all the buttons. xD

That is the point, turn everything up all the way, everything has to be louder than everything else to rock. If you are getting noise complaints, you need to play louder.

I was at band practice last night, and our keyboardist's son came upstairs and yelled at us to turn things down because he couldn't hear his Power Rangers DVD. You know what happened next.

Listen goddammit we are going to play our shitty surf version of "These Boots Are Made For Walking" as loud as we fucking want (or louder). And don't you dare come in and bitch about "OH NOEZ, I CANNOT HEARING MY POWER RANGERS" when I am playing "Pipeline" as the solo.

In short, 8-year-olds know nothing about rocking the fuck out.

Yeah, though I'm not sure what kind of cab he's getting.  He used to have this ridiculously large Fender 2x12, which had enough space for at least 2 more speakers.  That would be a bitch to steal.

well here is a picture of my two babies. thats a 1991 ibanez rg 560 on the right, and a esp LTD ex-260 on the left.
when i got the ibanez it was a really beaten up thing, chuncks missing, off white yellowish colour. so i stripped it down and filled it, then repainted it. what do you think?

and if you are at all interested in how these sound, i have uploaded several videos of original guitar stuff(mostly metal riffing and soloing) that are apparently good.
heres the links

if you actually like those there is more on the profile there

Seems like with smaller hands and fingers (on average), it would be easier to play a guitar, and I actually know a girl that hasn't found a bass she can play, because she can't reach the E, her hands are too small.

I decided to learn bass for several reasons: Everyone and their dog around me can play 'normal' guitar; I find the low end more interesting sonically and tend to listen to it more closely in recorded music; and I think basses look and sound far more badass. And guitar strings are so thin and sharp I always think I'm gonna cut my fingers on them.

I have a question of my own. I want to change the scratchplate on my bass, it's a Fender Jazz: can I just pull it off and place the new one on with a screwdriver at home?

dude I hate to tell you but the #1 rule of guitar buying is NEVER LET YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER BUY YOU A GUITAR. It's like getting a tattoo of her name- pretty much guarantees that you'll eventually break up and really regret it. It is a horrible horrible curse!

I think I even did a comic about this, but I can't remember.

Wait so you're letting something that happened 10 years ago ruin your quality of life? What are you, America? :psyduck:

Shane the sad guitar comes from when Martin pawns off his old guitar so he can afford to move to wherever the fuck the comic takes place from california.

So my girlfriend bought me a Martin for my birthday..

OH NOOOOOOOOO

dude I hate to tell you but the #1 rule of guitar buying is NEVER LET YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER BUY YOU A GUITAR. It's like getting a tattoo of her name- pretty much guarantees that you'll eventually break up and really regret it. It is a horrible horrible curse!

I think I even did a comic about this, but I can't remember.
I don't recall the comic. It is kind of unavoidable if you have a band with your SO. My fiancee is my bassist. And she bought me my Parker Nightfly M. You know, if we break up and she takes it back, breaks it into small guitar frags, shoves it up one of my orifices; etc... that's just life. I'll have a lot more to worry about. I still play a guitar my ex-wife bought me.
