My friend's Sheraton II (you know the one, I took a mirror shot of myself holding it) seems to be pretty goddamn excellent.

Ted Leo ain't arguing with his '80s Sheraton II either, although he doesn't use it as much as his ES-335. Still, Sheratons are damn nice and they have such a thick, meaty sound to them...

I am so glad you posted that, Chad.  I have been looking at getting myself a Dot.  Or something very similar.  Like a Hagstrom Viking Deluxe.

That ES-300 depicted above made me almost cream my jeans. That would've been bad, since laundry day isn't until Sunday.

Is my collection. Not all guitars, but meh.

The star piece there is the semi-hollow. It's an early 80's Crestwood. I don't know what exact year, I don't know what model. I sounds great and nobody seems to know what the hell it is.

Astute viewers will note that this pictures is a few months old. The SG copy in front has since received a new pickup that makes it much more badass. Out of an Ibanez, I believe; my tech had it in his basement.

And the Embassy has also since received the cleaning and polishing that it so desperately needed.

I had a friend what had a Dot w/ nat finish. A very good guitar. Especially after he took the pick guard off.

Yeah, the tuners on the Dot are your standard gibson grovers.  I bend the hell out of my strings and have had no complaints.

As for those Sheratons, they're great.  As are the Casinos, and the Regents.  The only hollowbody or semi hollow Epi I had a beef with were the Joe Pass Emperors.  Some of them were great, and some of them were not so great.  The neck profile from guitar to guitar was totally different depending on where it was made, and the pickups were all over the place in terms of sound.

On a side note, I tried out the Ibanez AG95 and thought it was a hell of a guitar.  It was more than I wanted to spend to just play two songs in a set, though.  Although I may buy one yet.  The appointments were all amazing, and the pickups were better than those on the Dot.  The neck is a little weird as Ibanez being Ibanez tried to make it into a relatively small, fast playing neck, yet also tried to retain a c-profile like a traditional hollowbody.  The result is the string spacing is awfully close, and the neck is a little awkward for thumb placement until you get used to it.

I really like my Hagstrom Swede.  Seems like much better quality than an equivalent epiphone LP, so I'm sure the vikings are good too.  Every dot I've seen has been amazing for the price though, so it's really hard to go wrong with either.

I'm trading my fucking SG in for one if I can. I like my SG, but god damn it, I've wanted a Jaguar for three goddamned years now. If Fender had made this fucker a year ago, I would not have an SG now, now would I?

This thread is making me really sad that I play bass.

I feel that too... but this thread has pretty much inspired me to learn guitar (albeit slowly) so that I have reason to buy one for myself (at the moment I'm using my brother's old Squire Strat). I have no idea where i'll get the money for one when the time comes... nor what I'd actually buy. But hey, music is better (and cheaper!) than my last hobby *cough*modifyingcars*cough*

I actually learned how to play guitar so that I could be a better bass player.  It makes for a whole different perspective.  I still much prefer to play bass in bands, but when I'm sitting around my house I usually grab a guitar to mess around with.   Also, I enjoy the extra songwriting input I can have in my band instead of just writing to whatever the guitar player brings that week.

I actually learned how to play guitar so that I could be a better bass player.  It makes for a whole different perspective.

Which is why I'm glad I learned guitar first, because I saw the bass fretboard as being the same as the guitar's, and so I can find harmonies and 4ths and 3rds and all that shite nice and easily.

I still much prefer to play bass in bands, but when I'm sitting around my house I usually grab a guitar to mess around with.   Also, I enjoy the extra songwriting input I can have in my band instead of just writing to whatever the guitar player brings that week.

This is indeed, true, but then I've never known the 'no songwriting input' thing because I've been writing since my first band grew out of playing 'Sad But True' for hours on end.

Yeah, though in his defense it was kind of a piece of shit and he got a ridiculously good price for it.  It was the cheapest model Gibson made, and was fairly beat.  Still.  1928 GIBSON Banjo-lele.

I got a response. The dude says that they're definitely still releasing it, but that us finding out about the product's mere existence is due to Guitar Center and Musician's Friend leaking the info before Fender gave the green light.

That prick bastard had to stick a needle in and say "But I have seen and played one and it is AWESOME!"
