So, you order the SG, you wait forever for the SG

I bought it in a store and took it home that night! The "wait forever" was when I was waiting to get her back.

So, you order the SG, you wait forever for the SG, you promptly break the SG, then wait forever for it be repaired, and now you want to get rid of it?  Maybe you could go into counseling with the SG and work through some of the issues it's put you through.  I'm sure, in time, the two of you could learn to love again.

Marry me.

So, firstly, why ARE you selling the SG?  I'm partially interested in it, but the fear of my Firebird strangleing me in my sleep is keeping me from wanting it more.

lulzy stuff

Marry me.

That's the exact trap I fell into with the SG dude, you better rethink before you commit.

And I'm selling it because I just plain don't like the way she sounds in terms of making my own music. Now, for covers, she's incredibly versatile, and she'll do a fucking blazing slide guitar. And in terms of showmanship, I fucking adore that thing's looks. Everything about the way she plays is perfect, and if the neck pickup were maybe a half inch further from the bridge it'd be perfect for my own stuff, but it's not. On the *ahem* GUITAR I'D RATHER HAVE *cough*, the pickups have superior placement in terms of getting the sounds I'm looking for.

That said, when I install the noiseless Tele pickups I just bought for my Stratoclone, the fucker will sound like Jesus Christ ejaculating at 5,000mph and having it hit the bells of the cathedral in Munich.

Currently ordering a Fender Jaguar HH. Played one the other day, so nice! Suitably jangly for indie shite and suitably meedly for posthardcore stuff too.
Then gonna get myself a Tiny Terror and a cab to replace my current amp. Favourite thing about the TT? SO CHEAP. They're about $500NZ (That's about $300US) which is hella hella hella cheap for an orange amp.

Danelectro Hodad. Somehow I got it for $325, cheap seeing as it's not made anymore. Four lipstick pickups wired as two humbuckers, coil tapping, phase switching (push-pull pots). The neck is somehow only 2 or 3 mm thicker than the headstock, and very very fast. Second to none, ties with Music Man necks. It's black with gold sparkle metalflakes. Oh and a custom Danelectro whammy a-la-Bigsby. Like the one in the link but a different color. http://www.danguitars.com/Hodad.html

You didn't happen to but it at Encore Music in Minneapolis, did you?  They had one that sounds like yours.

That Dano is pretty sweet. The guy from the Poster Children gets some INCREDIBLE guitar tone from his.

You mean looks? no, I bought it off of some guy on eBay. I was scared shitless the entire time waiting for it to arrive, because I couldn't find one anywhere else that was the same and I have a thing for Danelectros. The whammy I find to be pretty useless for what I play, ska and punk and rock. My friend actually has maybe 10 (!) Danelectros, but his father is professional and buys them for fun. Coincidentally, he lives in Minneapolis. Martin Zellar, maybe you've heard of him. I tried out one of his U-1s and U-2s, as well as a DC and a DC-12. All sounded good, and somehow the DC-12 was easier to fret, faster, etc. than the others. If you had one I would throw my Hodad off of a cliff if you were to sell it to me.

Well, my Dano wouldn't be much of an upgrade (in the state it was in).  I bought my U-1 for $180 used.  After playing it for 6 months, I took it in for $125 worth of repairs.  It was desperately in need of a fret dressing and the bridge was caving in.  I ordered a new bridge (actually a U-3 bridge, because it has individually intonatable saddles) and had a fret dressing done; the part is back ordered.  The guitar has been at my local music store for a month and a half and it looks like it will stay there a bit longer.  I miss it dreadfully, especially since I just a new guitar amp 2 or 3 months ago and I'm still playing with it and figuring it out and I haven't had much of a chance with the Dano.

But a used Dano in good condition is a great deal.  They are great guitars for the money, just a little cheaply made, but they sound great.

You can definitely tell the difference in sounds between the woods. You don't want every guitar having the thin, twangy tone of a dano.

Yep, Masonite.  Is the Hodad a solid-body or a semi-hollow?  I ask this because U-1s (and therefore I assume U-2s and U-3s) look like they are solid-bodies, but are actually semi-hollows.

Hey guys, I'm probably getting a tiny terror...maybe Friday.

NOW, help me internets. I am likely going to have to get a used cabinet. I am thinking a 2x12 would be fine.
But they seem to be less ubiquitous as the 4x12s you would find at Guitard ctr or SamAss. So anyway, thoughts.

To trash things up I play a Parker Nitefly M. It's a HH Mahogany guitar, with a Fishman acoustic bridge. I play stereo into a PODX3Live. Stereo bc I use different sig paths for the mag (DiMarzios) and Piezo pickups. Signal comes out the nitelfy in stereo.

Anyway. Granted I can get any freakin' sound out of the POd. But I am playing in more places that have dodgy or shite PA's. Also when I've played this into my FPrinceton Stereo Chorus (Solid State) it just sounds weak.

This is all happening because my 85lb monster Peavey 5150 has become unreliable. I suspect it needs some TLC from someone and I don't have the time to get it worked on. Additionally I have half a dozen shows lined up. Additionally I took the Twin Reverb on the road a few weeks ago and it sounds like it also needs repair (likely power supply replacement, and some speaker probs).

So, I (and by "I" I mean my wife) thinks I should just start w/ a new amp. Played the TT in Wilmington a couple weeks ago and OMGOMGOMGOMG. Perfect. If I don't do something about my crap sounding amp, she is likely to issue a beat down with the P bass.

And gee it would be nice to not have a SCROTOLIAN BACK BREAKER of a rig to lug. (Besides I have her ampeg + 2 cans to lug, ugh).

My first thought was PORT CITY WAVE CABINET. But at $600, that's a bit steep. And just not do-able right now.

Am I kidding myself? Should I just bite the bullet and take a 4x12? Seems like the TT should be able to give me an equivalent sound with a 212 cabinet as I would get with a 212 tuber combo...

If you want cabinets, specifically a 2x12, I'd say look into Marshall and Vox cabinets.  The ones loaded with Celestion speakers in particular.  Me, I'd probably want to get a Vox 2x12 with the Celestion Blues.

I briefly check out some Marshalls on Musicians' Friend and I came across one that had a switch that allowed one to go change from a mono imput/output to a stereo one.  Thought that might interest you.

This one.

Good good. I have an ENGL 4x12 myself, which I am very pleased with. Heavy as fuck, but it sounds good and is practically indestructible. Hooray for german functionality!

And that MM is indeed sweet. They had it in the window of the local store, and I asked what it cost. Turns out, it costs even less than the Faded SG Special, AND there is a pimpin white-plush interior hardcase included!! I tried it out for half an hour and just fell in love. The sound is just pure RAWK, but it sounds good clean, too.

I just have a huge weakness for these kind of stripped-down, simple machines. You just plug it in, and rock. Simple, perfect, AWESOME!
I have it reserved for me now, since I couldn't take a Hardcase home with me on a bike, plus I'll have to sell my hideously awesome/awesomely hideous headless bass to finance it.

That's not fair. My Hodad is pretty twangy when I'm coil tapping, but not when I'm using the pups as humbuckers. A Hodad does something other than replicate Telecasters. I've gotten some LP-esque sounds out of mine. Besides, twanginess is not a bad thing, especially for more upbeat things like ska.

Jeph just because you are rocking loud does not mean you are rocking hard! Any fucking Fender ever > SG > Les Paul

Stupid credit card didn't go through the first time I made the order on AllParts (Wells Fargo can suck all 30 of George Washington's goddamn dicks), so I had them cancel it and I just re-did the order altogether.

LIST:

- pack of 5 .047 capacitors
- 2 500k potentiometers
- 3-way toggle switch
- 1 set 6-in-line locking Sperzel tuners
- 1 set noiseless Vintage Telecaster pickups
- 1 giant fuckin' penis extension

The damned order was like $278 or some shit. Remind me to use a better guitar the next time I decide to get it signed by a rock and roll hero.

The fact that it only took one post for that to be corrected makes me smile.

Patrick, any Gibson SG ever ever ever > any Fender guitar, as Fender guitars lack testicles.

Truth. My friend, as I have said before, wants to get a telecaster, where as I want to get an SG. Even though I am the better guitarist, I am going to give him lead, because otherwise he would have nothing to do, as the little squeaky sounds of his telecaster would get blown the fuck away by the pure ROKK emanating from my SG. Course, he does have a better amp (100 watt Peavey, I think) than me, but that can change, soon as I get a job. And a car. And the SG.

Man, you are doing it so terribly wrong.

It's in fact the SG, aesthetically pretty and great for hi-gain rokk but not much more, that should be playing lead. The SG is infamously one of the least versatile guitars ever built,  though it's great at what it does.

The Telecaster has deep tone, tons of class, and is 1000 more versatile. It can play scorching rhythm, provide great harmonies, etc.

Of course this depends on your friend's skill, the feeling in his playing, and if he got a nice one.

Meh. As pointless as a PC v Mac thread.

In other news the War On Terror (whore on error?) has failed now that the Tiny Terror lives in my basement. Plays pretty durn loud through the Sheffields in the 5150. But they are wired for 16 ohm.

The terrorists have won.

You and/or your friend have no idea how to work a Telecaster and the EQ settings on an amp.

If you are really all that concerned about that, then just suggest him a telecaster with a Wide Range. Fender Humbuckers sounds quite a lot better than Gibson ones. If you have sexual inadequacy problems though,  keep using that SG.
