And yet, it's probably going to cost $15,000 and sell like hotcakes.

I feel the same way about Fender, but Gibson much more so: You guys need to throw a SHITLOAD of money into R&D. Come up with something new. You've had the same guitars for about 40 years, and they're great. But for the love of god, come up with something new.

(Note: I really liked the Fender Toronado and want to pick one up someday)

Close, Eugene. Think a little more outside of the box. Coronado Wildwood. They injected dye right into the trees to get color patterns.

Sorry but that's hideous. I really don't like strange wood grain patterns on natural finish guitars except for the peculiar natural Rick 4003.

I would love to have one of those. I checked on eBay, most of them don't even go for that much, at least as far as vintage guitars go.

GINORMOUS FUCKING PICTURE

Mega nasty, if not dog shit

I totally want the hell out of an Eastwood Classic Six. Maybe if I get really famous I'll ask Mike Robinson to make me a custom model with a Fender headstock so it'll look like a Coronado.

Hell, I would just love a regular Fender Coronado. Hell, I would just love Mike Robinson to make a version of the Kustom K200 series:

FUCKING AWESOME.

Christ, I didn't think it was that big. And I can't find a picture that isn't from Eastwood and gigantic.

I'd almost like to see Mike's take on an Ampeg Dan Armstrong, though the new wood-bodied versions are pretty nice (and affordable).

Hey, I've got a question.  At the Decemberists show on the 7th, Chris Funk was playing some sort of 12 or more stringed instrument.  I think it was a guitar, but the body looked like a large mandolin, and it had three single coil pickups.  Does anyone know what this thing is called?

Was it an electric sitar? (They make one-necked models too)

Or a more traditional looking Mandocaster.

If it's the same one he plays in the video for 16 Military Wives (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7fzUGR8ZH4), then it looks like an electric 12-string guitar to me.

It was like that, but it was semi hollow and the body was more rounded with a natural finish, but yeah, I think it's basically the same thing, thanks.

Left - VOX Teardrop
Right - VOX Phantom

They are awesome vintage guitars from the 60s, they make them in semi-hollow and 12-string as well.

I dunno what the heck that black one is but it's a rip off of these. Iconic 60s guitars.

Tuna, does it have two switches you need to flip? Did you hit both of them? First time I used a non-crappy tube amp, I didn't know how to get it to work, my tube amp just has one switch.

Yes, it has two switches, I flicked both of them. As well as played around with all the volume/gain knobs. How do you check the tubes themselves? Other than taking the amp apart, which I think might void my warranty or whatever and prevent me from taking it back to the store. It is a new amp, fresh outta the box, so I shouldn't have to replace anything yet. Although I'd rather get this one to work than take it back and wait for a replacement etc especially since practice is this weekend omg. I am already a little PO'd because it came in so late, so I already had to push back practice once. (We're not a band, just a group of people doing band-like things.) At this rate it might take another 3 weeks, plus I need someone to drive me back down there. Suck.

But anyway, here's some pics of my new guitar! Fender Jagmaster. I love it a whole lot so far.

Well, one way to check if you've got a bad tube is if you look at it and it's all black.  That would probably indicate a blown tube.  When you messed with the volume knobs, did you get any kind of hum at all?  Is there an indicator light to tell you if it's on?  It could be a bad fuse or transformer if it seems like it's not getting power.

Nothing at all, it's entirely dead. Plug it in, nothing comes out. Which leads me to think that maybe the power cord is the problem? In which case, that might be easier to fix. I'm sure I'll be messing with it a lot tomorrow (last day of unemployment, beh).

Yeah, if it does nothing at all, the problem is probably wiring, or the cord. Did you not get it from a store? You could probably convince them to let you swap it for another of the same if you did.

One of my friend's father has one, and he says it sounds great.  The gain channel is a bit muddy and it shares the EQ with the clean channel, but the latter works really well with pedals.

Yes, and I left a message on their answering machine. I have no doubt they'll give me my money back or let me swap, it's just that they had to order this one for me because all they had was the floor model (which sounded AWESOME), so that's another few weeks if I want the same amp (& I do). Sort of an asspain.

There should be a fuse on the back. Most likely it is just blown. But seeing it is a new amp, I'd get another one. Because if the fuse blew that soon and you weren't playing it while in the bathtub, chances are there is some bollocks'd wiring in there somewhere.

Hey all,
So I've played guitar for about two years now, and I'm building my next guitar. It's a Telecaster Thinline model, and I was hoping to outfit it with locking machine heads, but I know nothing about tuning pegs in general.
Any recommendations?

Well, you can't go wrong with a set of Sperzels. They're pretty ubiquitous, and with good reason. Otherwise, a good set of Grover non-locking tuners will do more than well too. I've had nothing but good experience with Grovers.

So, christmas is coming up. I am currently using a POS Behringer Vintager, and want to get a new guitar. I was planning on buying one when I had a job, but thanks the the economy, me finding a job as a 17-year-old with no experience whatsoever is somewhat unlikely. I'm planning on asking for one for christmas, which means I am looking at cheaper models, which are not consistent in quality, though you can get some gems (my friend has a squier strat that has the kind of action guitarists have wet dreams about). I was wondering what to look for in a guitar. Low action, no buzzing or dead frets, smooth neck, pick-ups that aren't noisy until I want them to be, good tuners, anything else? Oh, and how would I be able to tell if the tuners are good?

I am also considering asking for an Agile, and just suggesting that in case of lemon, if they get one, they get it shortly before christmas, so there is time to make sure I like it in case I want to return it.

I've talked to people who've played them and I've been told they play quite well after a good setup.

You'll be able to tell good tuners from bad ones if you can bend notes pretty far and the string stays in tune.  Also, if there's a tremolo on the guitar, good tuners won't lose tuning when fiddling with the trem.
