Yeah Patrick, it's a pain in the ass to fake a Gibson name. Fenders are a different story, however. I've seen a dude sand the "Squier" logo off the headstock, stain the wood a nice non-plywood color, and slap on a Fender USA logo in like an hour. He also does work on the body, neck, fretboard, replaces the hardware and electronics (this costs him about $500) and sells these things for $800 (he advertises the fact that they're clones and not real Fenders) or gives them as gifts to broke professional musician friends who can't afford the real thing.
