Rickenbackers are always an acceptable choice.

One thing that Gretsch has got to be loving right now is the exposure they're getting from the Rock Band series. Gibson's been enormous cunts about having their guitar designs in video games, and it's gonna mess with their sales as a result, because really, Gretsch have always been such a woefully underrated company and now they're getting a lot more spotlight than they ever used to. They're such awesome-sounding instruments, immensely playable, and their designs range from classic elegance (Chet Atkins, White Falcon, White Penguin, etc.) to '60s rad (Electromatic Corvette, as pictured earlier, as well as any other guitar in the Electromatic series) to "Oh my god that is the raddest fucking thing I've seen all day" (Billy-Bo Jupiter Thunderbird, Bo Diddley signature box guitar, both of which are in this world due to the influence of one of my favourite people, Mr. Bo Diddley).

And the thing I love most about Gretsch is that they are mainly hollow and semi-hollow, and you guys know how much of a giant slut I am for such instruments.

Wait, if Gibson doesn't like licensing guitar designs to video games what the fuck happened with the SG, Explorer, and Les Paul in the last 3 or 4 Guitar Hero games? (I say 3 or 4 because aside from the regular editions there's also been the themed Aerosmith game with the Joe Perry LP controller etc.)

Fender said they've upgraded their MIM standard series. As you can see by this Telecaster, the upgrades for all are as such:

-Tinted necks
-slightly aged pickguard (and knobs on strats)
-uhm..less color choices (Sunburst/black/arctic white/midnight wine)
-the Fender logo is from the 70s
-I guess they're $50 more across the board.
-Maple fretboard availible on P-Bass (okay, you can't see that on a Tele)

I was excited at first, but now not so much. I like the aesthetic upgrades, but $50 increase? Damn you, economy. I needs me a regular style Telecaster to compliment my HH Squier Custom.

No, they sued over something completely ridiculous:

Gibson Guitar Corporation, whose guitar likenesses have appeared in the Guitar Hero series from the first game to Guitar Hero Aerosmith, informed Activision on January 7, 2008, that it believed the games infringe its U.S. Patent 5,990,405 . Gibson claims that this covers technology that simulates a concert performance via pre-recorded audio and a musical instrument. In response, Activision filed a suit seeking a declaration that it was not in violation of the Gibson patent; Activision also asserts Gibson has given an implied license by waiting to assert the patent and that the patent is invalid.[118] On March 17, 2008, Gibson sued six retailers (GameStop, Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, Target, Toys "R" Us and Kmart) for selling Guitar Hero products.[119][120] Subsequently, on March 21, 2008, Gibson also filed a lawsuit against EA, MTV, and Harmonix over their game Rock Band also for violation of its patent, to which a Harmonix spokesperson stated that Gibson's claims are "completely without merit".[121] Activision lawyer Mary Tuck stated in their legal filings that they believe that Gibson initiated the lawsuit due to the fact that " Activision was not [interested] in renewing the License and Marketing Support Agreement" with Gibson Guitars.[122] Rock Band's guitar controller is fully endorsed by Fender.

TL;DR: Gibson licensed the use of their guitars to Harmonix for the first three or so games, then pulled the plug so they can sue them for stupid bullshit. Whatever, my character on Guitar Hero World Tour (on the Wii at my parents' house) uses a big Jazzbox with a small depth. If only I actually had a guitar like that. Like maybe a Gretsch or one of those Ibanez semi-hollow body guitars.

I can't wait for Gibson's sales to plummet dramatically. Then they will sell ES-335s for a Patrick-friendly price.

As much as I hope I can pick up a damn cheap Firebird, I strongly doubt that would happen. Anybody who is buying a guitar because of a video game is going to be looking in an entry level range - which means Epiphone and cheap Gibson knockoff sales will drop dramatically.

selling guitars = weak

shit I cannot even let go of the amps I have that don't work. Oh wait, I am a crazy shut in. Except for work. And going to shows. And gigs.

I am here to report we drove to chapel hill and back and did not hit a largish deer on I-40 incurring $300 damage to the monsta diesel this time.

Also we made $4.00 USD.

(Last time we made $6, but we did have that whole deer thing to deal with)

Win?

Also, if elected it will be the law that every household must be equipped with a tiny terror.

Cabinet it up to you.

Hey guys.

So, I need a new amp to celebrate my new Orville by Gibson ES-335.

So, slightly used and blemished Orange AD15, sounds grand, made in England, 10'' Jensen speaker that breaks up SO fucking good.

OR

Fender Blues Jr., kick in some JJ tubes, switch that hunk 'o gonads speaker, make it sing like a pretty girl, WITH REVERB

OR

Orange Tiny Terror + Framus 2x12'' V30 Cab, never tried one of these, but I suspect I might like it. The TT -IS- made in Korea though.

The cheapest of these options is the AD15, and I've tried it, and it sounds gorgeous.
Going to make a ES-335 side by side comparison of the Blues Jr. and two AD15's to make up my mind.

Also, bear in mind that one of these amps will be used in a stereo setup with a Fender Pro Reverb Silverface for the clean tones. With the ES-335. And two strats called Ginger and Candy.

I personally would get the AD15 - especially since it's the cheapest. The TT has a little bit more drive, but it's a little bit less responsive, and Fender amps aren't really my style.

From what I've tried, in band settings, running it with the Pro Reverb, I can max up the gain, really drive the sucker, and then clean it up with the volume on the guitar. This is something I do a lot with the Fulltone OCD for example.

I really dig this kind of amp dynamics, and it IS a must for me.

I'm a bit scared though, because I wanted a small portable amp to play jazz / lounge. I'm scared that this won't do it, at all.

Next time I'm down at the store, I'll check how much clean volume I can get. There can be some breakup, I don't like the all clean jazz, specially since I run it with a hollowbody.

If it works, then I got myself I new amp. If it doesnt, then I'm probably going to get a Fender Blues Deluxe (never really thought about this one till now).

Hey guys so, I have a Martin. My ex-girlfriend bought it for me last year on my birthday.

I don't want to re-gift or sell a gift or something, but at the same time I really don't want to be reminded of her.

More importantly, she got a fancy brand name for me without asking me what I'd really like so I've never been completely pleased with it. Martins are known for their dark tone, and I like really bright acoustics. Also, this is their cheapest model (still $500 plus the $100 case) so it's made of HPL (high pressure laminate) and not wood, which contributes to the overall dark tone and makes a bit too quiet.

It's in perfect condition (no scratches, dents, action is perfect) aside from the usual wear on the pickguard and the case has some scratches from the sidewalk but is sturdy!

Do you think I could trade this in at Guitar Center for a price that'd be worth it? I don't want cash, just an acoustic guitar that I enjoy playing more. I don't really care about brand names- some of the nicest acoustics I've played in this price range have been Epiphone Masterbilts. What I'd hopefully like to get out of this? One of these, or something similar if anyone has any suggestions. I'd probably need to add some cash as well, but since I've never sold anything to GC, I have no clue how much?

Guild GAD-50
Epiphone Masterbilt DR-500R or AJ-500R
Blueridge BR-63

I think I'm gonna be getting a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe as my next amp. I found one at a local place for $599 new, and I was pretty impressed; I've read some mixed reviews but for the most part I liked what it had to offer.

I also played an Epiphone Blues Custom 30, which was around four-hundred bucks new. I was pretty impressed with that also, it's gonna be a tough choice between the two. I'll be sure to chime in when I make a final purchase.

What's up, I'm new and I found this thread to be awesome so:

I use a Hot Rod Deluxe as my main gigging amp and I love it.  It's loud enough for small clubs and fairly quiet enough for my room.  I really like the cleans I get with my guitar (I have an Epiphone Sheraton) and for slight distortion it's awesome.  I use an octave/fuzz, a delay, and a wah and it sounds really good with each.

Also, how do you guys feel about Telecasters?  I'm thinking about getting one.

Telecasters are some of the most varied and versatile solid-bodied guitars around. You're gonna have to be more specific.

It's way too much money for me to spend but I love that mini humbucker.  Throw a bigsby on it and I will gladly give you a kidney.

p.s. Um, how do I link it under specific text so I can forgo the whole showing the entire address thing?

Yeah, it comes in black.  Even the old-school black-with-white-pickguard is pretty bland though.  Actually, WTF is up with Fender and super limited color choices these days?

No, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper and it's still a good-quality guitar.

Keep Gibson out of this, anyway. They're so overpriced, it's not ever funny.

By that post, I can be pretty certain you've never owned a Gibson.
