Quote
...the Dual Terror Head is a twin channel, 30-watt head switchable from 30 to 15 or seven watts. One channel is essentially the same as the original Tiny Terror head, while the other is labeled ‘fat channel’, which is kind of self-explanatory. UK RRP is set at £449. We can’t wait to try one.

£449 = About 641 US dollars.

Other than the retarded stripes, that is a mighty fine guitar for an okay guitarist*.

*When I say this I point to their first album, because that one is actually pretty okay.

How come really shitty musicians wind up getting nice guitars as their signature models, thereby ruining them completely?

I want to bid on it sooo bad.  Has anyone ever tried outbidding someone at the last minute?  That's kind of what I hope to do.  Although, I am nearly broke after paying for my classes this semester.  My mom would probably go apeshit if I bought a guitar, but the way I see it, I deserve a used Sheraton for getting good grades last semester.

...And my birthday is coming up in a few months.

Nah, what I am sayinig is if that is your mark of manhoodliness then you are silly. I think it is cool no matter what you use. But the, "I use this so you R teh wuss if you don't" speak is really what I am addressing.

Yep; it's a 60's japanese made guitar for sure.  It's kind of a weirder one because the body says Teisco, while the headstock looks more like a Kent or japanese Kay.  Keep in mind, these companies all built out of the same factories and some no name frankensteins were made of available parts, so it may be a little of each.  Good beater gitars typically with tinny surf-rock tone.

Editor's Note:  While I live in the Southwest, Belleville, Illinois is my hometown.  I would direct you to local attractions to take in while you're there, but there are none.

Haha. I went to a music festival at the skatepark in downtown Belleville one year. We walked the city streets while some notoriously atrocious bands played.  You are correct in saying that there is nothing cool there.

Is 150 too much for a most-likely tinny guitar when I am currently enrolled in a proggy post-hardcore driven rock band with the occasional psycho-dissonance freakout?

Here's the thing- some of these guitars are great.  Some of them suck.  The great ones have working truss rods and classic-era real Dearmond pickups (think Gretsch).   The shite ones have no truss rod, impossible action, zero intonation, pickups that sound like something radio shack threw away, and will feedback.  In essence, they aren't guitars, they're firweood or something to make a godawful racket with.  This particular one appears to have the Dearmond single coils, and a truss rod that is accessible at the neck.  People who dig these guitars pay big bucks for all original ones of that varierty- in which case I'd say yeah, it's worth $150.  Worst case scenario, even if you hate it you can buy the original parts online and make your investment back several times over.  Plus, for what you play you may get some real intersting tones out of it, and you don't have to baby it or worry about screwing up a guitar.

(If you decide to keep it for yourself with that Bigsby, I would advise going to stewmac.com and getting a roller bridge or it will never stay in tune. A graphite nut wouldn't hurt either, and will probably be a tonal improvement over the plastic).

It wouldn't be good for a full-time guitar but I could definitely imagine that kind of tone sounding good in the occasional song or two

I've been playing guitar for almost a year now. I own a acoustic Yamaha guitar, an Ibanez RX-20 according to the print, a 69' Teisco 110 Tulip or something like that, some childrens guitar made by Tyco, a Fernandes Nomad Deluxe and a one-third scale acoustic guitar, supposedly handmade.

I played stuff

One of the guitars I played through that Deluxe Reverb. Vox Typhoon from the mid-late 60s. The guy only wants $375 for it. I'm really tempted right now.

(Though the one I played was orange and didn't have a pickguard)

Man, this is only semi-related, but I am really pissed off about this.

So I've been rehearsing with my friend Sam (keyboards) for a week or so, since that's all the time we've had, trying to get music together for the Robert Burns Ball that happens in... oh, 12 hours. Our first drummer dropped out with practically no notice, so we've had our second drummer for only two rehearsals. Fortunately, the man is a fucking savage and is the most intuitive and skilled drummer I have ever worked with. He's truly the savior of the ball.

So my mom, being a Scot-o-phile, decided she wanted to sing a few tunes with us. Fair enough. We worked with her for most of the rehearsal last night, with stuff like "Flower of Scotland" and "Wild Mountain Thyme". Very Scottish stuff. So after we've spent all night reworking the song so that the key suits her range, adjusting tempo so that she's happy, basically bent over backwards for her, but it's no trouble because she is right there to tell us how she wants it. We practice all of this shit, using our valuable rehearsal time trying to make her happy.

In the car on the way home: "I want to do it a-cappella."

I think it would've been awesome if I had just set up my webcam and lappy microphone in front of my drumkit, call you on Skype while you're at the ball, you connect your computer to the sound system, and I play drums/other things you want me to play for the ball.

I think this would be a hilarious way to jam. Maybe we should seriously try that out?

Ok. I bought the guitar.

It looks awesome. The tone is exactly what I wanted. However, I'm not sure what the original setup was. The bigsby is an add-on. The intonation is godawful because of it. I'm talking a half-step off. I've screwed with the stupid bridge that's on the guitar for two hours, and I can't get it any better. Someone suggested putting a roller bridge on. Would that help with the intonation problem, or should I just pretty the thing up and throw it on ebay?

Rolling bridges are basically essential to a Bigsby.  It looks like it had a trapeze tailpiece on it before but someone half-assed putting the trem system on.

I suggested the roller bridge and a graphite nut.  Yes, it will help, as would locking tuners.  The problem with a bigsby is that it totally releases the tension on the strings, which then snag on the bridge saddles when the tension is restored.  A roller bridge helps alleviate some of that problem.  Guitar fetish has them for $22 - http://store.guitarfetish.com/gistbr.html.  The graphite nut also alleviates some snagging, and the locking tuners will maintain string length.  Guitar fetish also has the locking tuners for about $22 - http://store.guitarfetish.com/gisttonsi.html.  A new graphite nut slotted at a store by a knowledgeable technician should be no more than $45.  All in all a nice playing and sounding guitar for less than $250.  Of course, you could say fuck it and sell it, or just buy a stop tail or trapeze bridge and be done with it.

Cool. Thanks, man. I was hoping to be able to gig/record with the thing right out of the case, but it looks like it's going to be a project guitar. Oh well.

I have never swapped out hardware on a guitar before either, so this is a pretty good chance to learn.

Heh, I've been telling people to do this with their guitars for ages and only now does somebody agree with me.

(as it turns out, I have never had any trem stability issues with my Jag, because the vintage-style slotted tuners lock that shit REAL good, and the floating bridge is a genius design save for the easily-fixed buzz issues)

So, guys.

Added a few stuff to my setup. Here's the lowdown

Guitars:

04' Fender H1 Stratocaster Maple Neck (don't use it live, use it for recording, when looking for specific twangy tones/50's strat tone)
94' Fender American 40th Ann. Strat Rosewood Neck  (Custom '69 Fender PU's, real great 60's sounding stratocaster. Love it.)
93' Orville By Gibson ES-335 (Best guitar I've ever played, ever, ever. Worth millions to me.)

Pedalboard:

Boss TU-2 -> Xotic RC Booster -> JD Jimi Hendrix CryBaby -> Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus -> Fulltone OCD -> Maxon OD-808 -> MXR Supercomp -> JD Fuzzface (early 90's) -> Custom made Tycobrahe Octavia Fuzz -> EHx Deluxe Memory Man

Amps:

Fender Pro Reverb Silverface 1979 (This thing sounds ... perfect. Better than anything else I've played. Would love to try it against an original 65' Twin Reverb, because it beats the reissue out of the water.)

Fender Blues Jr.

--------------

Will get some pics, if you guys wanna see the gear.

Is this enough for some forum cred. around here? I've seen lovely guitars around this topic, makes me want to buy a couple (hundred) more.
