Having to restring that guitar would single handedly inject enough money into the economy, and create enough jobs to get us out of the recession.

[EDIT] Also, wow, there is some pretty cool stuff in that video. That arabian instrument was totally awesome. If only I could understand what he said it was called.

All the comments are like "omg sikkk!" and "fukken awesome!"

I thought it was absolutely awful.  At least the guitar bit at the beginning.

3 ply black.

Tomorrow, I'm thinking I'll take my Jag with me outside in the 40 degree (fahrenheit) weather and play for about an hour, then bring it inside into the bathroom next to the heater and watch the finish start to check.

I recommend the Blues Junior, for ANYONE.

Seriously, the cleans are so freaking gorgeous, they rival (but not quite) with my Silverface Pro.

Yeah, that whole line of Hot Rod amps is great.  I lust for a Blues Deville.  But all I really have to do is change the speakers in my Hot Rod Deville and I've got a Blues.

I have a Hot Rod Deluxe, and as much as I like it, I plan on changing the speakers and tubes as soon as I have the cash.

I feel like there are a lot of improvements that could be made.

Thats a Blues Junior, and I pretty much like the speaker that comes with it.

Might retube it with JJ/EHx, instead of the Groove Tubes.

Gotta play a couple gigs with it and see how it feels.

A guy on the OSG forum is selling a modded Squier Duo-Sonic, and I put a hold on it. Refinished the neck, new decal (old-school Fender style), totally replaced the stock electronics, pickups, and tuners.

I loved it (aside from the neck finish) when I tried one out a few weeks ago, and the neck refin definitely sold me.

I think the Blues Deluxe was the second best amp I played in Boston (behind that blackface Deluxe Reverb). USSR Big Muff sounded rad through it, too.

And way more destructive and irreversible. If shit goes wrong I can just refinish, because, well, I was planning on doing it anyway. Fucking with my finish so that it cracks isn't going to cause permanent abrasion damage to the wood of the body or neck.

Forgive me for not speaking down to your level.  A guitar is kept under a good deal of pressure.  Acoustics need to be very well taken care of to last any significant time period.  Solidbody electrics will often last longer, but there are still all manner of conceivable problems.  A good guitar will last longer than a good car, but it's foolish to simply count on one as being permanent in one's lifetime just so.

Nodaisho - I think that was the point of the joke.

Hey, question. I was thinking of learning to play acoustic, just for my own enjoyment. I'm pretty busy (and poor!) so lessons are out. If I pick up a few decent books (do they do method books for guitar, or is my classical training showing?) and chord charts, how easy/practical would it be for me to teach myself?

I do have a few friends I can ask for irl help if I need, so I won't be learning straight from a book, but I'll probably be doing most of the work myself.

Poor quality music is poor.

I appreciate some of Metallica's riffs but Kirk Hammett's soloing is boring and ridiculous.

Yeah, I think about the only Hammet solo I sorta didn't hate was the one in Creeping Death, and mostly because I vaguely remember thinking that he did a decent job of seguing out of it for once, even if it was kinda boring in the middle. I could be wrong though, since it's been ages since I listened to it. I like solos and heavy riffing plenty, but the kind of freak out wanky solos you get in so many live performances do kind of bother me.

You're asking for smooth solo transitions from the genre of heavy metal, a genre essentially built on clunkiness and bravado.

I'm not a huge fan of Hammet, but criticising him for obvious segueing is like criticising G.G. Allin for being a complete dickhead. Sure, it might be true, but it's also the point.

(Ride The Lightning was his shining moment. He has plenty of boring solos, but Ride The Lightning was a stroke of genius)

I never want a matching headstock on mine, and I want to keep the tort guard.

Which reminds me, I want to start a black metal band called TORTGAARD and only play offsets with a tortoiseshell pickguard.
