It was the only way I could get them to fit on there and look nice.  I had originally wanted to do the Tele Deluxe knob layout, but it wouldn't fit with the second f-hole.  When it comes down to it, all this guitar really is is a full  hollowbody Tele Deluxe with a Bigsby and a killswitch.

So I just bought an '07 Danelectro Dano Pro in tangerine.  It is brand new, and I know this because I remember when the music store got it in.  It was marked down to $200 so I figured why the hell not, I love the hell out of 'em and I'm not too sure about this years model.

My friend who was a bass player also bought a Danelectro '91 DC bass the same day, from a different store - independently of me.  We hadn't even mentioned it to each other before the fact.

The squareish ones?

I still want to get a black one. They sounded ace for such a cheap guitar.

Yeah, I would describe the shape as, "bowtie."  Which makes the black color comically classy.  My Rick is already black so I went with a more festive color conducive to twee pop.   Sounds great through my Hot Rod DeVille, and is a fun practice guitar on my other amp.  For $200 I can't complain.

I have the Dano Pro reissue as well, and it's great. Mine's sea foam green.

But I can't stop thinking about the Dano '67 reissue they just put out.

I just found out an institute of religion teacher I have has a '61 hard tail strat he bought in '61. He says he might bring it in some time.
I just lowered the action on my Squier strat, and man it makes a difference. I've still gotta check if it messed up the intonation. Would it make sense to intone at the 2nd and 14th fret instead of at open and the 12th?
And I bought a capo. No one cares.
My teacher says he doesn't think much of Gibsons, that Fenders are more versatile. He used the phrase 'boat anchor,' but did say they were good for the styles it was designed for.

No, it wouldn't.  You only check intonation with harmonics and the fretted note.  You shouldn't use a capo on the second fret because you'll likely be a bit sharper than you will playing by hand, and this could throw you a bit off.  Also, unless it sounds really bad, don't worry about checking your intonation right now.  Wait until you change strings.

Why should they?  You have to be singing something in a key that better suits your voice, or someone else needs to be singing and you accompanying them, so go start a band!  Then someone'll care!

I think that Gibson are  a paternalistic bunch of bigots who think left-handed persons are not well-suited to play the electric guitar.  They can go hang.

No.  I am right-handed in most things, as was one Johnny Allen Hendrix, however at a young age I broke my left arm about two and a half inches above the wrist.  Now my left wrist won't turn enough to fret effectively; picking is problematic, too, but only slightly.  I started playing right-handed, and I had learned to play guitar reasonably well, but after five years and the end of puberty (that last little growth spurt was the tipping point on fretting with my left hand), I decided it was time to switch.  It was a very difficult process, learning to play all over again, but I stuck with it and am now much more proficient at most things playing left-handed than I am at playing right-handed.  I do still play right-handed from time to time, but after about fifteen minutes I have to put the guitar down.  I find my playing much more interesting when playing left-handed, anyway

My wife and I are both lefties that play right-handed. I started on the 5 string banjo. I've never seen a lefty one of those. When she took up the bass I told her to just learn right-handed as she'd have a hell of a lot more options as far as instruments go. Plus I like having my dominant hand on the fretboard. After a lifetime of using right-handed scissors, power tools etc... it seems like really no big deal. If that is the sort of thing that hangs you up, you should probably take up piano. I have recently met 3-4 right handed folks that play left handed, though. One was a trumpet player that it made sense to just flip the guit over and play lefty. Another taught himself to play as a toddler on a toy guitar and when he took lessons they tried to make him play righty. But he'd already taught himself to play left handed. Visually I always like the image of the guitar/bass being opposed in their handedness. You know one guitar pointing one way, another pointing the other.

Man, I divebomb the living shit out of mine. The biggest problem is that the arm is so long, and so as a result, when you shove the handle all the way into the pickguard, you really don't do a whole lot. Maybe a full step on the high E, and 7 steps on the low E. On a Strat, you'd have all 6 strings sucked into the pickups before you even got within 3 inches of the guard.

Another thing that kindof irks me is that when I bring it above and below the center to do a good, even tremolo, the damn thing likes to go "CLICKCLICKCLICKCLICK" and the shock of that whole thing travels all the way through the strings, just like when you play behind the bridge. It's great for when I want to make noises (which is often enough to where I haven't bothered fixing it), but if I want a noiseless tremolo it kindof pisses me off.

What Jag did you endup getting again? Also, do you have any idea where the clicking is coming from?

When I was still working for Severn Trent Searches, we had two kinds of PCs - the in-house ones and the ones we essentially rented permanently from another company. One morning we came in and found ALL of the off-site computers had had their mouse buttons reversed. It was completely ricockulous, and we only realised it after about half an hour.

Hey, is anyone here familiar with Agile guitars?  Specifically the Agile Valkyrie III?  It's a Gibson clone company that's supposed to be damned good for the price.  the Valkyrie III is an SG knock off with a bit of a twist.  If anything, it looks like non-reversed Firebird and an SG had a baby.

My friend is [hopefully] going to get one for something like $350, and I am (despite my already fine ass guitars) initially pretty jealous.

Has anyone had any experience with these things?

Visually I always like the image of the guitar/bass being opposed in their handedness. You know one guitar pointing one way, another pointing the other.
I'm not entirely sure you actually read my post.  In most things, I'm right-handed.  I know how to play guitar right-handed.  I started playing right-handed.  I switched because I broke my left arm as a child and can't turn that wrist enough to fret effectively, and this became worse as I was leaving my teens.  I didn't want to switch to playing left-handed, but it was basically that or give up any hope of playing guitar for more than ten minutes at a time.  I play left-handed because it's pretty much my only option, though I did have a great opportunity to learn how I wanted, since I already knew how to play I was able to teach my hands to play certain styles better, and to give up a lot of my huge reliance on pentatonic scales that I have playing right-handed.
As far as playing piano, well.  I don't really care for the piano, it's to me about the most boring instrument to play.  But I do play my synths a whole lot, and I have trouble with my left hand there too, since my wrist is so problematic.  Nothing major, but I can't really cross my left hand over my right for anything.  Also, if you don't know about a left-handed banjo, go make one!  :)

Just for amusement, left-handed piano. And opposition.
The opposition is pretty meaningless.  "Oh no, a lot of people do it like this, so should you!"  Isn't that why they used to kill left-handed babies?  Onto the intriguing thing, the left-handed piano is actually a very powerful idea.  I've read some thing's about how most instruments are set up as they are because most people favor their right ear, and can follow melody better.  This is why the lute, guitar, &c.  are played as they are with the left hand doing the harder work.  The really interesting thing about this backwards piano is how it will not only fit the pianist's hands but probably his head as well.

Also, on the Rondo Guitars, I've never played an Agile but I do have an SX I got for alternate tunings and I have to say, I didn't know you could get so much guitar for $150 unless someone's got a monkey on their back!  I definitely recommend checking them out; they're very well-made instruments from all I've seen and heard.

Re: Agiles

Apparently, you get a hella good guitar for the price, but I have almost consistently heard you need to get it professionally set up before you can play it.  They occasionally need a bit of work or have some blemishes in the finish or something, but they sound nice and are cheap, so modifications aren't all that big a deal.

Bear in mind, though, this is only what I've heard from people on the BYOC forums/Harmony Central.

Unless you're putting on heavier strings, you should be able to set it up yourself.  It's quite an easy process if you're not filing the nut.

And it's pretty easy to tell when your baby's using the devil's hand!

I've kinda been wanting one of the SX thinline Tele clones. HRMM. But I already have two guitars, and a third on the way.

Then again, one can NEVER have too many Telecasters.

I'm still debating between the Little Big Muff and the Dano French Toast. I think the Dano gets a little filthier, and it's got an octave up switch. But..on the other hand, it's a Big Muff we're talking about.

On a side note, I see alot of people here favoring the vintage looking guitars so I thought I'd say there was a Kramer Elliot Easton up on ebay, right now. Very cool and rare.

Oh man, speaking of Multineck guitars, the local Guitar center has a used Epiphone 1275 (the doubleneck SG) for $500. I'd have been more tempted to buy it when I started out playing a year ago (you can read of me drooling over doublenecks much earlier in this thread), but now I'm thinking more along the lines of a Fender Strat, as opposed to my Squier Strat. What do you guys think of the roadworn series? If I didn't get that, I'd probably get one of the new ones with the 'add bridge' switch. I like experimentation right now.
And when my teacher brings in that '62 strat he bought in '62, I'll see if I can't get a picture with it.
And, I imagine that the whammy on a real strat throws the guitar out of tune less than it does on a Squier, yes? Is it all in the nut?
I love this thread.

This really depends on the individual guitar and how it is set up.

Why not go for a triple neck?

That is the greatest contraption for making country, folk, bluegrass that i have ever seen.

Shame you'd need about 6 arms to play it well though.

Guys: http://www.rondomusic.com/product2391.html
A 7-String telecaster.  I don't know what to think anymore

Actually, twangy Baritone guitars have been around in Country since forever, more or less, so the practicality of a 7-string in this context more than justifies it.

EDIT: To be honest, I'm actually kinda shocked you guys didn't see that immediately.

Depends on the trem. I mean, you could take a Squier, pop a decent trem in it, and it'll handle better than an MIM Strat.

I'm not entirely sure you actually read my post.
Actually I was not advocating for either just making a general statement on handedness. Sorry to be such a bother.

okay, now I'm totally worth joining the QC guitar club..

I GOT A FUCKING JAZZMASTER

It sounds... delicious, it's like... the best thing ever. And I don't know who set this gal up, but it's like... super stable. I can divebomb it, and no out of tunage. Also, 0.012 strings ROCK.

I hate you so much.

I can't decide if I want an Epiphone Dot or a Casino more.  A Casino would make more sense, but I'm not sure I like the trapeze-style tailpiece.
