Dir En Grey are awesome live
« on: 19 Jun 2007, 23:56 »

I'd never heard them before, I went because my they're my girlfriend's favorite band, but I'm a fucking fan now. I dunno how many songs they played because they just played non-stop, it was great. The Deftones were the headlining act, but they may as well have been the cool-down act, cause there was no following Dir En Grey.

Recently? In NYC? Dude i think i went to the same show. Fall of Troy played first. Dir En Grey kicked ass. I especially like that thing the singer does where he bites his lips and bleeds all over himself.

Tonight, in St. Louis. Kyo didn't bleed in this one, sad to say. My girlfriend did get one of Shinya's drumsticks, though. But, yeah, Dir En Grey kicked copious amounts of ass.

I don't really like their music much, but those are some fine looking girls guys girls oh, whatever they are.

I wonder how many Deftones fans didn't know they're dudes.  If even one stupid Deftone fan questions his sexuality, IT WAS WORTH IT.

Funny that you mention their sexuality b/c we were jokingly all like "more like dir en GAY! har har har" and this chick next to us told us how they used to do their shows in drag sooo.. Not too far off. I swear that singer is in his own world when he's up there. Its really entertaining to watch.

Wait, they don't do their shows in drag anymore?

Because last time I saw pictures of them, they looked exactly like women.  Especially the drummer.

lolol I used to be so into this band when I was like 11.

Anyways they're nu-metal now. Fuck that noise.

Also they don't dress in drag anymore, they just dress like douchebags.

What, they stopped dressing in drag? Shit. I suppose I'm probably going to be seeing them this summer, as they're playing Wacken.

As above, but M'era Luna. Might roll along to have a look if there's nothing interesting on the other stage; the music's toss but the costumes might be quite funny.

I actually recall getting beat up by an anime fangirl once at school because I said "those are the ugliest looking japanese girls I have ever seen" because I had no idea who Dir En Gray was at the time and I honestly thought they were just really ugly chicks.

It looks like they're trying to be some sort of zombified Keith Richards now though? (Not that he isn't a zombie now anyways hur hur)

Dir En Grey is not awesome. They are the worst excuse for metal I have ever seen. Everytime they are mentioned I get mad, I am sorry.

Actually, the lead singer kinda looked like Tadanobu Asano did in Ichi the Killer, sans the facial hair.

I got a swift kick in the crotch for laughing really hard when I first saw a photo of them.

I could swear whoever invented Visual Kei did it to creep the hell out of homophobic Westerners.

After sitting here racking my brains out for 20 minutes, I've concluded than I cannot think of a single US band weirder than this.

I was gonna go with Rockbitch, but apparently they're British.

Glam Rock yielded some pretty weird looking bands, and the Visual Kei thing seems like the next progression of that.

Negatory. They're quite diverse, they seem to change their sound for every album so they might have made one numetal album but they keep changing their style.
Also, they just look like standard over the top Japanese rock stars to me.

I am well aware of how Dir en grey's style has changed. I have every album up until the one before the lastest gathering dust on my cd rack. I'm willing to admit I still don't mind some of their pre-Vulgar because it displays actual talent rather than just the desire to penetrate the American market with shitty chugga chugga riffs and weak ass screaming.

Honestly this music is for would be Slipknot and/or Korn fans who got into Inuyasha instead and think that Shinya is just ~*kAwaIi*~ kekeke ^_^

Cute in Japanese. It's basically retard speak for awesome (the 4chan spastics who squeal it everywhere, not actual Japanese people).

Really? Wow, you're right, Dir En Grey IS a terrible band! And the same thing happened at a Korn concert! Wow, terrible bands hate pregnant ladies...

Dir en grey opened that show, look into things before you go running your mouth.

Also that statement wasn't directed towards the band, but at the lame ass fans who I became quite familiar with when my sister dragged me to see them live again a few months ago. Terrible dye jobs and fishnet clothing all around. I also got kicked in the back of my head by some 600 pound anime fan girl trying to crowd surf.

I have respect for the musicians in that band because it's evident that they ARE talented if you listen to their older stuff, but they sacrificed all of that to become westernized and gain a wider audience.

They were opening for Korn.

Come on.

Dir En Grey weren't at that show. And, honestly, I don't care who they "opened" for. I saw them at a show with the Deftones as headliners, and I didn't like the Deftones, doesn't mean I hold that against Dir En Grey.

Damn the one date they didn't play.

Alright then, sorry about that. I mean it's cool with me if you like them, to each their own and all, I just think they let down a lot of their fanbase to gain another demographic to sell their shit to.

On that Korn thing, that's completely insane that the guy got beaten to death. However, why was his pregnant girlfriend and a handicapped kid in the mosh pit? Doesn't deserve to die for it but it seems a stupid place to bring two very fragile parts of society...
Poor guy...

I know someone who loves this band, but I've only heard a few tracks and I really can't get into them at all. I saw one of their video's and it put me off on the band even more what with how silly and shock-rock like it was...hm.

I would like to see them live I guess.

I'd say that the shock stuff isn't in their live stuff, but I can't say just from one show. The one I went to was them playing the music, the lead singer doing some weird stuff with his arm, but that was it. But in a clip from a different concert, he had like some blood on him from something. The clip was shot in Japan, so maybe the shock stuff isn't done as much state-side.
