So, we've seen your guitars and your effects pedals, but has it not been said by many a man that the amp is the most important part of your signal chain?

Here is some stuff I use to project my playing.

1.It's a Kustom V-PA I use as a head, because in my younger naive years of playing I chose to keep that and give the valve head that belongs with the cab there to my cousin. (Pshh i was a punk lad, the valve one didn't give me the clean sound i wanted. I may try get it back.)

2.This small Coronet amp i scored while buying a piano accordion and zither off this guy for way cheap.

I also have small 15 watt guitar and bass amps i take around to mates places.

Right now though, I'm looking for something new for guitar.
I'm thinking preferably tube. A small combo, 2X12 at the most. 2 channels, and spring reverb is a high scoring option.

So show me what it is that makes you loud, why you chose it, and what you would choose over it/hope to have in the future.

I use a Laney HCM120R which is very loud! It's good, too, because it boosts distortion, has a noise gate and has a lead boost button which is cool because I love heavy metal and those features are conductive to metal.

Other things that are cool about this amp include the fact that it's a valve amp, which means I turn the gain up to about 7+ for hard rock and metal and anything underneath is actually very suitable for blues. More or less it's very user-friendly in this regard, which is a huge improvement over my Marshall solid-state with which I would have to turn the overdrive down to 2 or 3 to get anything remotely bluesy out of. Even then I could scarcely play anything that's not a single note or a power chord at a time.

My dear man/woman, is that a Teisco guitar leaning upon that amp? I have one exactly the same, judging by the colour and the headstock, although I can bet mine was cheaper (I swapped a CD for it).

I have some dodgy soulless line6 amp, which is the jack of all trades but master of none. Good for having a variety of sounds, not so for truly good guitar tone.

this is what i'm guilty of currently:

amps L to R: Acetone FR-20 Rhythm Ace beatbox+amp, Epiphone Valve Junior head into open-backed 1x12" cab, Fender Dual Showman head into sealed-back 2x12" cab, (a few others not shown, mostly about to be sold off).

pedals L to R: Line 6 delay modeller (used mostly for the looper), Boss DD-3 digital delay, Boss BF-2 Flanger (used to make swirly sounds, not as a flanger), Boss TR-2 Tremolo, 1988 Ernie Ball mono volume pedal, Line 6 Filter modeller, (not shown: zvex Fuzz Factory, Ross Phaser Distortion, Crowther Hotcake and a positively silly number of other pedals sitting in a flight case under the console).

I payed AU$25 for mine.
Rather than get it set up/the frets fixed up, i just put the action up reasonably high so that up until around the 12th fret or so its fine, after that theres dead frets and buzz everywhere. Gets some nice chunk though

What amp do you have? I was thinking that the flextone might be cool, but i'll probably stick to my dream of owning a twin reverb at one point in my life.

Strange, mine buzzes at around the same fret, amongst many others.

I've got a flextone II, which, as I said, is good for a variety of sounds. They say they're a perfect emulation, but it doesn't feel as good as the originals; the Mesa Boogie doesn't have the save kind of edge as a real one, nor does the Marshall setting. They sound good, and quite like them, but there's just something missing that makes the real versions have such a reputation. It has a twin reverb setting too, but it feels a bit lacklustre compared to the real deal. But this could be just me.

Unless you REALLY need a wide spectrum of amp settings, I'd go for somethine else.

My friend bought a new amp yesterday. The head is an old, beat-up, Fender Bassman from the 70's that sounds great and works fine (although looks like it's been beaten all to hell), and the cab is also a Fender from the 70's. The cab sounds great but has a rip in the grille that looks like someone stabbed it with a guitar. My friend also found an Epiphone ES-335 (with Bigsby tremolo and whammy bar) from the 70's that sounds great and looks beautiful. The best thing: all of it was dirt cheap.

I've been using Fender Rumble 60W amp for some time now, but that's going to change. I've had my eye on some Gallien-Krueger amps, but I'm going to take my stingray and harass music shops until I find exactly what I'm looking for. Basically, something strong enough to take on my Stingray, but still have a soft, full sound for the double bass sound my Jazz Bass has since I pot flatwound strings on it. The Fender Rumble makes my Jazz Bass sound weak and dry.

50 watt Orange Rockerverb. It kills.

I have a Les Paul (beautiful guitar..) which is run into a Marshall Valvestate 100. It sounds killer but I really want to get a new amp soon- most likely a JCM 2000 or something. At this point I don't have any effects, but soon I'll be getting some sort of delay, the zakk wylde wah (this sounds really good- and I love using it as a filter) and maybe a volume pedal.

Other than that though, I don't see why I'll need any more gear. I've got a epiphone explorer tuned to B, so that's that covered. I'd love a Whale Blue PRS, but that will take a while to save up.

I have a Laney GH50L, a dirt simple one-channel tube head which sounds awesome for rock.

The "lo gain" input is defective though, so I have to run it through the hi gain, which makes the distorted sound even cooler, but it is close to impossible to get it totally clean with a Humbucker guitar.
That said, I don't need clean anyway ;p

I run the head into en ENGL 4x12 cab.

I will now describe my future gear plans:

Schecter C-7 Hellraiser, more or less. A distortion pedal, a wah pedal and I'm set. I need that C-7 however for the trippy prog stuff that I currently cannot do! Saving up! About $1000 to go! Damn!

the EL-84 quartet version of the Mesa/Boogie Caliber .50:

the final version used a pair of 6L6s and was still okay but pretty blah by comparison.

I think I already put a picture up of my amp. It's a Fender FM212 DSP. 100 watts, dual 12in speakers, two channels, built in effects and amp models. It's pretty nice. I with the clean channel was louder though. My gain on 3 makes the clean channel on 7 or 8 tremble in fear.

The way i have it set up is this:

Channel 1 - British Amp model, gain on 3 with delay.
Channel 2 - Metal amp model, gain all the way up, slight reverb effect.

I have a DigiTech Screamin' Blues overdrive/distortion pedal. But it sounds kind of muddy when i run it through the amp. I'll figure something out.
