Video Game Predictions
« on: 07 Jul 2007, 11:47 »

Reading my newest issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, two things caught my interest, mainly because I had previously had a chuckle at both ideas at seperate times, without having the SLIGHTEST clue of their actual existence.

Soul Calibur Legends for the Wii, an adventure game in the Soul Calibur franchise, with Siegfried as its starring character, exactly as I thought.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy, a fighting game for the PSP, contains characters from many different Final Fantasy titles, and while details are scarce, the idea of God of Darkness and Goddess of Light characters as well as a few others are weirdly akin to silly ideas I had while thinking about this game.

Someone is stealing pieces of my brain. What game predictions do you have for the furture, and also, have any of your past predictions come true?

I was excited about Dissidia until I remembered playing Ehrgeiz and trying to decide if it or the Star Wars fighting game were worse.

My game prediction is that Miyamoto is going to announce a new IP sometime this year, and just like with Pikmin, people will divide into camps of "what a shocker, another cutesy kid game with annoying mechanics" and "I'm shocked, but in a good way because it's another chance to see a true genius at work."

You know what strikes me as really funny? The 'hardcore' 15-year-old Sony fanboys always dismiss Nintendo as making 'kiddie' stuff, and yet they're all losing their minds for LittleBigPlanet, which is arguably just as 'kiddie' as anything Nintendo makes.

I would hope everyone here knows better than saying that is cute or appealing to kids is somehow inferior. That sort of logic is for (as previously stated) 15-year-olds and shallow people. I bought Viva Pinata the day before I bought Gears of War, and I think all that says about me as an individual is that I enjoy well-made video games no matter what demographic they target.

I personally find the irony delicious.

I'm expecting IO to announce a new Hitman game sometime soon and I'm gonna be all over that shit when they do.

I think it shows how desperate PS3 fanboys are for something to get excited about, to be honest. I'm not really convinced about it anyway. No matter how great it looks, it's ultimately a platformer with a level editor.

And they did announce a compilation of the last 3 Hitman games, which, having never played a Hitman game before, I am pretty interested in.

My only issue is I bought the package as soon as I saw it was available knowing that I will probably never touch Hitman 1 & 2 ever again because Blood Money fixed goddamn near every problem the earlier games had.

Seriously, don't play it first. It'll ruin the earlier games for you.
