PS3 Price Drop All But Confirmed
I Am Not Amused:
Ummm....
I could have swore I read somewhere that Square-Enix has decided 100% that XIII and XIII Versus will be Sony exclusive titles?
Could be wrong, could have dreamed it. Anyone else with info on this?
ScrambledGregs:
Since FFXIII is so far away and SquareEnix can change their minds at any point in the mean time, I wouldn't take a god damn thing they say seriously. It's fun to go back and compare what kind of things they were saying/showing about FFX and FFXII and how they actually ended up.
I agree that you're an idiot if you buy a system for only one game. I realize there are likely to be other games you'll want for PS3 when FFXIII comes out, but if all of those games aren't exclusive to the PS3, why bother??
Storm Rider:
The thing is, making them Sony-exclusive makes no real sense for a business standpoint for Square Enix. I mean, nobody is really buying the PS3 in any territory except Europe (which is by far the smallest of the Big Three gaming regions anyway), and people in North America own dramatically more 360s at this point, which is just as big a fanbase for Final Fantasy as Japan, if not more so because there are just so many more people in America and Canada than Japan. Unless Sony finally got their game together and unloaded a really, really big check for Square Enix to keep it exclusive, there's really no reason for them to not make a 360 version. The only reason I think that FFXIII is less likely than MGS4 to go multiplatform is because Konami has already made MGS games for non-Sony platforms (Twin Snakes on Gamecube and Subsistence on the original Xbox). Neither of those series is really a huge deal to me individually. I've never played a Metal Gear game, and although FFXIII looks pretty neat, if it's just the same Final Fantasy gameplay I'm not overwhelmingly interested, especially if I'd have to buy a whole new system for it. If Heavenly Sword, Rachet and Clank, and Uncharted all turn out to be as awesome as the hype machine is spinning them as, then I'll be much more interested in the prospect of buying a PS3.
Storm Rider:
OK, Sony's confirmed the price drop, but something we didn't know before was that they are dropping the price because they're bringing out an 80 gig model bundled with Motorstorm at the old 60 gig model's 600 dollar price point. Personally, as somebody who isn't really interested in Motorstorm and since the only difference between the two models is 20 gigs of hard drive space, I would buy the cheaper model anyway.
ackblom12:
It's like they're TRYING to make one unit pointless. Have they become addicted to hemorrhaging money from their Playstation line?
