Minutemen and fIREHOSE
« on: 05 Jul 2007, 20:03 »

Well, I love pretty much anything Mike Watt does.

Minutemen and fIREHOSE are two of the best bands from the eighties, I say.  Even though they were never hugely popular (mostly new wave on the radio those days), the music they play is so unique and wonderful.

Has anyone else heard of these bands?  Any other fans?  Any stories to tell about their music?

What bums me most about D's death was they had their next project planned out already, but they never got to make it!  I think it was called something like 3 Dudes, 6 Sides, 3 Studio, 3 Live.  Damn, wish we could have heard that...

I wasn't such a fan of 'Three Way Tie For Last' but I did enjoy the peversity of 'Project Mersh'. On the one hand I'm glad they never had a chance to suck, like most of their peers eventually did.

I always recommend Nomeansno to people who miss the Minutemen. They were another trio who also took Punk into genuinely ridiculous territory.

Man, did you ever see the video for 'King of the Hill' from Project Mersh?  D. plays this dictator-type who just gorges himself on food the whole time.  The only problem I have with the video is that the trumpet player from the song is hanging around.  It's like, "you aren't a Minuteman, so get out!"

And thanks for the reccomendation.  I'll be sure to check 'em out.

There are about 20 people in that video in almost every shot, dude.

I'm counting down the posts until Khar appears in here and tells us all how garbage the Minutemen and Mike Watt are.

Watching the 'King of the Hill' vid again, I noticed that the trumpet player looks a lot like my aunt.  Which either says that the dude is feminine, my aunt is masculine, or they're both androgynous.

Edit: tommydski- you can find the video on the 'We Jam Econo' DVD.  First disc, I think.

My old bass teacher burnt me a couple fireHOSE albums a few years ago and through that I learned about the Minutemen.  I haven't listened to The Minutemen much but fireHOSE is an excellent band.  My favorites are "Brave Captain" and "Chemical Wire"

The Minutemen are an honest band people can believe in.
