Party Jams

Of course, songs about partying or songs that you'd like to hear at parties.

I'll start it off with Andrew W.K.  He likes to party, party hard, party hard.  Perfect to get the "crunk" so to speak.

I never want to hear another techno song as long as I live.

I want to hear much more groove rock and funk at parties.

I say anything by James Brown and you're good.

The Invincible Spirit - Push!
Kraftwerk - The Robots
Laibach - Tanz Mit Laibach

James Brown is my first pick for any party where people will want to talk to one another, along with a few funk albums (eg. by The Meters) and compilations. I realised a while back that it was the perfect party music for me: upbeat, groovy, simple and familiar, and totally unobtrusive (if you keep it at a sane volume). Sometimes I'll throw in some old reggae and even Jack Johnson, however. Oh, and of course Earth, Wind and Fire. Very rarely some MJ from the good old days (come on, how many people are there that don't dig Billie Jean?)

For a slightly more bouncy party, I go for simple and familiar and cheerful rock/pop, pref. classics that everyone recognises, fun disco, some old-school reggae, a ton of mashups (eg. DJ Cheezi's "Mysterious Tweet" ;)) and my favourite Swedish hiphop, most notably by Timbuktu and Snook (great music, fun, original and familiar lyrics, tunes which very few people dislike, here).

There was a time when I always made sure to play "If I Ever Feel Better" by Phoenix, no matter who was there. But that time is past.

Ooh. That just made me think of something.

I Can't Go For That - Hall and Oates

I'd like to hear that as a party jam, 'cause... I like Hall and Oates. I really do. I like Hall better than Oates.

Perhaps you misunderstood me. I was in fact speaking of Journey, not global warming, the last season of the X-Files, Coldplay, Manatees being hit by boaters, Hugh Jackman, pre-op Lindsey Lohan, or other things that suck.

Well, really I would lump Journey in the same category as everything you listed.  You know, things ruining my day.  It's too hot to go outside,  my favorite pet manatee got the shit cut out of it while it was eating, Hugh Jackman reprises his role as wolverine, Lindsey Lohan continues to live and be a drain on society, Mulder's bland, monotone voice is emanating from my television and Journey and Coldplay are being played back to back on the radio.

I agree.  Catamaran is a party song.  I'm a bit bummed out that my local store doesn't have Terrorhawk.

As E said, Soulwax is a good pick, although I am a little more partial to the 2 Many DJs stuff.

While we're talking about great DJs, it is always a good idea to get some Fatboy Slim and Girl Talk.
