Everyone who doesn't own a Mac or Linux computer should jump on Gametap and get Psychonauts for free. You can play it until the 31st. I know it was already posted, but it needs to be said again. This is an amazing offer. Really.

HOLY SHIT THANK YOU.

<--- Debian

celticgeek:
You are most welcome.

Jackie Blue:
Recommending ADOM but not NetHack because NetHack's interface is "too complex" is just wrong.

ADOM is a million times harder and buggier than NetHack and the command structure is annoyingly convoluted (particularly the way you use class skills and order minions).

NetHack is also the single greatest game ever created, incidentally.

Adventure Game Studio's website is your friend for some really quite great oldschool point and click adventures.  I just played Murder In a Wheel last night, and while it only took me about an hour to solve, it was one of the most pleasurable gaming hours I've spent in quite a while.  Really well-done game.

Well, I am a freeware gamer from way back. Let us see.

You want a Castlevania: Symphony of the Night style platformer?
Eternal Daughter (There are some other games on that site, some almost as good.)

You want a Smash TV clone?
Destruction Carnival

Here's a list of free first-person shooters:

And a horrible shootemup I made when I was about 15. Strangely, the other, better games I made no longer seem to exist.
Destructor Dan (Direct Link)

For independent, often free, games, try TIGS.
