I'm not sure on the policy for shameless plugging, so i'll do it anyway and the moderators can have their way with me if it's frowned upon.

Basically, I'm trying to get started up on writing a music-based blog. Fairly regularly, just to share all the new bands i find. And i'd certainly appreciate some feedback and, frankly, just some plain readership. It's not exactly Indie, but it's not too far off.

Anyway, take a look if you're interested, and thank for reading!

Thank you. See, I'm quite terrible really when it comes to using accurate punctuation, so that kind of feedback is greatly appreciated.

I had often wondered if there's a proper way to write band names/song titles and now I know.

Oh and posthumously was fully intentional. I'm not sure how many of The Buzzcocks are still alive and how actively so.

Thanks for the feedback!

Speaking of the Buzzcocks, their old touring drummer Steve Garvey lives across the street from me, he is a carpenter.
About the music blog, listen to tommy because people might not take you very seriously if there are errors popping up everywhere in your writing.

In a lot of my courses where writing papers is pretty much the bulk of them, the subject of starting a sentence with '"and" has started coming up again.  Apparently it has begun to be a little more accepted these days, as is starting a sentence with "but".  I still think it looks horrible, though.

For song titles, try to use apostrophes ('Song Title') or Italics (Song Title) rather than speech marks

I have not seen one style guide in my life which recommends this. The standard is quotation marks for song titles and italics for album titles.

Stylistically, avoid long sentences and lots of commas. Everytime you find yourself wanting to use a comma, think about if you could probably just split it up into a sentence. You won't be able to a lot of the time, but you'll find that you eliminate run on sentences if you do that constantly.

Also, listen to lots of music you thought you might not ever listen to!

In my belated defence, I make a lot more effort to use accurate punctuation than most in the blogging community. In fact I actually USE punctuation, which is more than most of the blogging community.

Still, I'm always looking to improve.

Isn't this a British thing?

If this IS a British thing then I should point out I'm British.

I suppose it matters more that you're consistent. The apostrophe vs. quotation debate all comes down to which you're more comfortable with. Plus, apostrophe means you don't have to hit the Shift key. Bonus!

This may be true, but comparing yourself to "most of the blogging community" is setting the bar pretty low. I think you'll find that most blogs with devoted followers are stylistically pretty solid.

The bottom line? We support your endeavour because it is not a waste of time. Constructive criticism can help make it better. Your scab is peeling.
