Music to vomit to
« on: 28 Sep 2007, 11:04 »

I came down with something hard last night, and I woke up this morning with the feel-bads. After getting meds at the clinic, I still had the stomachache of a lifetime. It felt like one of those where if you get everything you've put down to come back up, you will feel better somehow. I didn't want to induce in silence, so I browsed my hard drive for some good vomiting music. I picked OK Computer, and though I couldn't reverse the plumbing after many tries, I feel better anyway somehow.

Thanks, Radiohead!

Also I would like to point out that the combination of Sailor Moon and faux-Kerouac / Sonic Youth spelling is perhaps the purest distillation of what this forum is that we have yet been presented with.

but the music sucks because the keyboards don't have the cold/mechanical sound they had but a wannabe techno sound that it's pathetic for Rammstein standars.

For some reason, as soon as I read the title of this thread, the first things that came to mind were Nine Inch Nails (see: most of The Downward Spiral), and "Think Long" by Modest Mouse (I saw a short video centered around puking, and Think Long was playing in the background; it just makes sense to me now, for some reason).

My friends Greasy G describe themselves as "Drunk-rock" (www.myspace.com/greasyintheboro) but I think you should get your drunk/puke on to The Black Lips.  It's a band I can't help but associate with beer drinking.

John Zorn?? He's looking to feel better, not further test his constitution.

Listen to the first Modern Lovers album.

You might want to choose something you don't mind if you never hear again, what with associations between it and blorting up your stomach and whatnot.

The Hold Steady is fun to drink to, and subsequently puke to (or so I'm told; I could only tell you about the first part.)

For the sick and feeling miserable, I put on Nick Drake. It's less the vomiting, more the soothing of being sick, that he is good for. Or Rush. Really.

I would personally go for the Cramps or the Misfits if its pukin' from the drinkin'. I want to feel like a hardass when i'm liqoursick, and not like an 8 year old who cries out his moms name while he dry heaves into the toilet bowl. Also, Modest Mouse.

If it is just a normal sick, I would want something like Silver Jews. Listening to David Berman's voice just reminds me that everything is going to get better soon.

Edit: I cant believe I forgot Tom Waits

The Scum Sluts

Their most popular song by far is "Shotgun Booze" which unfortunately isn't on their myspace....

....nor is it's sister song "Beer for me, puke for you"

Motorhead. I played a few of their albums years ago when I was sick. Until this day I cannot listen to motorhead without going faint in the stomach.

Otto von Shirach made an ep/mini album out of the sounds of people puking (that he requested people send him so he could bring that man on the street vomit news reporting)

I like to go ironic in that sad lonely toilet vomit at the end of a big night. Get something mellow and spacey, maybe Air, or the Crane Wife by the Decemberists. If it's from actual illness then I think playing Mastodon helps you get back on the horse afterwards. Come up from that chunder with both hands in the Metal salute so the world knows you love vomiting... well I do.
