in other words; i say go for it. does a dead turtle needs its shell for anything? not that i know of. as long as she can pay her respects to the thing and either; A) never finds out or B) doesn't care, then i think it is okay.
hell, if i was me (and i am) i'd be disapointed if someone turned down an opportunity to make something useful out of my otherwise useless corpse. bodies take up too much space in the landscape; onward, to efficiency, people!

I'd be concerned that she would find out. Unlikely, maybe, but its a possibility and if she did find out after the fact, that could really effect your relationship.

Well if you didn't think about stuff like that, then you wouldn't be asking for advice.
Personally, if it was my tortoise I'd say no, because it's just cruel to mess with an animal after it's dead. But if it was my sister's tortoise, I'd do it and then bury it without her knowing, and tell her i bought the picks on the internet.
