I Am Legend
StaedlerMars:
I just saw the commercial for this. It made me pretty excited. This and cloverfield are on my to watch in cinema list.
as for recommendations:
Y the Last Man (comic)
brilliant. I'm not sure whether it's finished yet. It kind of went down hill after the first few books, but it was still pretty ace.
TwinkyToes:
i just saw this without having read the book - very intense. there are some parts where i think everyone was holding their breath. the ending was a little weak (i thought anyway) but overall i liked it. 8/10
Thy Dungeonman:
A friend of mine was telling me about the book ending. I think that would have made a much better ending for the movie. But I don't think the movie versions of the vampire/zombies were smart enough to pull it off.
TwinkyToes:
after having a day to think about this movie, i come back a bit less satisfied than when i first saw it. the first hour was very good but the second hour was pretty weak. the storyline is pretty weak also. i'd give this a re-rating of 6.5/10
Melodic:
The movie was good, but failed to compare to the book. Besides being almost completely different from the original plot, the movie focuses far less on moral corruption and the ironies that Neville is faced with in the book. The first hour of "a day in the life" is spectacular, and gives a sense of solitude rivaling 28 Days Later in terms of scope and imagination.
The movie is much more straight-forward than the book, but Will Smith's acting really raises the bar for what is accomplished: without him, it would be a subpar adventure into the world of genre films. It is perhaps the most tense movie I've ever seen, and acting skill combined with beautiful (and chilling) cinematography kept my heart beating quickly throughout the entire sitting.
Great movie, better book. Experience both.
