Fuck.... Municipal Waste is probably the greatest live band ever.

I saw them last night, and I have never tried a crazier moshpit in a smaller venue :D

I saw Liars with No Age last night at this small club here in Austin called the Mohawk.  No Age seemed pretty cool and I can see why they're paired up with Liars, but I was trying to get beer and find my friends through the tiny bit of their set that I caught.  Liars took forever setting up, which sucked cause it was outside and cold, but Angus eventually took the stage in a bright pink suit and things got rolling.  Apparently his back is still fucked up, as he spent much of the show propped up on a stool, but he still managed to command some incredible stage presence.  I'm not familiar enough with their stuff to remark on the set list, but a friend told me it was a mix of all four albums.  I know they played Other side of Mt Heart Attack as their closer, but then came back with two more as an encore and closed for real with Let's Not Wrestle Mt Heart Attack, which was killer live.  It wasn't the most mindblowing show in the world, lots of fans bundled up and huddled around the outdoor gas heaters, but pretty damn good.  Would recommend.

A couple of nights ago I saw Explosions In The Sky, and it was far and away the best show I've been to- and I've been to some kick ass shows. They only spoke twice in the show, at the start to say "hi, we're explosions in the sky, we're from Texas", and at the end but I'll get to that later. From the very start they just had so much fucking energy an were getting the crowd so into it. HYPNOTIC, CARTHARTIC, HEAD FUCKING. They didn't pause once, working into each song, there was just constant music for an hour and a half and they put absolutely everything they had into every second. Think Warren Ellis and replace his violin with a guitar, that kinda energy. At the end, the just stopped and walked off and the crowd were so pumped for an encore, but then one of them walked back on and said "there is no way you can expect us to give you and encore after we gave you every ounce of our energy. Sorry and Thankyou". What a show.

On Thursday I'm seeing Sonic Youth so I'll report back after that.

I saw them last night! We got a little more conversation at the start though. They were really good and had a ton of energy all the way through until just after they stopped playing when they seemed pretty drained. I'd never really listened to much of their recorded stuff before so I went in expecting just post-rock and nothing specific. They covered the whole spectrum of sounds I'd have expected blending between songs with plain and pure feedback, noise freakouts and repetitive time-delay stuff. They played about an hour and a half of beautiful, delicate melodies and roaring crescendos.

The venue was excellent too. It was at this temporary open-air venue that's been put up for the Perth International Arts Festival. There is basically a stage covered on top and loosely around the sides with white sails looking south away from the skyline of the city onto a bit of an open area that's a little bigger than the standing room you'd expect at a large club. Behind this there are a couple of small steps up and then an area a little larger than before with these comfy purple two or three person couches and little cushions and coffee-tables scattered about with tall orange curvy lamps along the edge. Then behind there on the wings there were small little grandstands with rows of seats and another section of couches in the center. It was all decorated really well and as you walk in from the back you're greeted by this big, bright painted pastel panel that sort of sets the mood for the whole place. It was really friendly and there was enough space for everyone whilst still being fairly cosy despite being pretty big. I'll try to remember to get pictures when I go see Sonic Youth there next weekend.

Shit you're seeing Sonic Youth too? Like I'm doing everything you're doing a couple of days before.
