sean:
Yeah dude. It was fucking awesome.

And one more thing I forgot. If anyone wants to hear their new songs, they have versions recorded from their show in Montreal in March. My friend was there and he said they were excellent! They have all of 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons up live too.

Shazam!

Yup, that was me, although I can't for the life of me remember what I yelled.  Their stage-banter was hilarious, which I didn't see coming at all, considering how serious and somber their music is.

Oh, and I found that review they were pissed about.  It's pretty awful.

TheFuriousWombat:
Efrim ac Co. are terrific at between song banter. I was genuinely surprised by this. I don't know why but I guess I was assuming they were going to be distant or something. They were incredibly nice and had the whole crowd laughing for some time, however. Also, thanks for the link to the new songs live. I'm excited to hear what I missed.

muffy:
I saw The Ghost Frequency and This City at Club NME in Brighton on Wednesday - the bands were fantastic - loud, pulsating hybrids of post hardcore and full on disco, but the crowd acted like limpets - seriously, I have never seen quite such a large gathering of arms clutched to chests and blank or disdainful expressions. Brighton crowds are notoriously irksome for this, but I think this tipped the scale. Possibly, people saw the NME logo and thought 'oh, cool, we have to act even more unimpressed than usual', but this was to the point that in an audience of 200 odd people, I stood out because I was moving. The upshot of this is - if you get to see either band live, do it. Just take some kind of electric shocking device for the people around you.

--- Quote from: Objects inside Clouds on 23 May 2008, 14:41 ---I saw Earth play with Pelican and Priestbird last summer and I can't say I remember Earth being too terribly loud. I may be insensitive to loudness though, since my hearing isn't exactly top notch (nor is it terribly bad, thank you).

They were playing at an All Tomorrow's Parties I was at last year and I figured I'd catch some of their set since I quite enjoyed Earth 2. Then I heard them checking their amps and realised I was not going to enjoy it. You didn't need good hearing to know it was loud either, the vibrations made you shake. They must not have had the same kind of gear when you saw them, either that or you're made of steel.

Did you stick around to see them play or did you leave before the set began?

The reason I ask is because I saw the same tour with Pelican and I have to agree they were not as loud as I was expecting. At that time they were just a trio with a half-stack for the bass and guitars. I had only given a cursory listen to Hex when I saw them and I was expecting fuzzed out drone metal a lá Earth 2.

They sounded nothing like Earth 2. They were playing this sort of slowed down version of electric country. Kind of the same idea as before, but replacing the fuzz with twang. It was really incredible, in my opinion they blew Pelican off the fucking stage, but I think the twangier sound helped mitigate the volume so it didn't feel like my ear drums were being torn out.
