Yeah so that's pretty much it.

I listen to, Arcade Fire, Modest Mouse, Spoon. Sunset Rubdown, the Good Life, Rilo Kiley (speak of the devil the radio's playing Silver Lining), Sunset Rubdown, The Fiery Furnaces, the Who, Talking Heads, Andrew Bird, Beck, The Beatles, The Shins, Bright Eyes, Tokyo Police Club and The New Pornographers.

I have always found Silverchair to be really annoying and don't recommend Operator Please or I while track you down and kill you.

Um, operater please? perhaps?

Why do we need a new thread for this? What's wrong with the Ozmusic month one? Anyway I was just about to reccomend the dirty threewhen i saw that post. Midnight jugernauts are really good. If you're willing to give electro a go, Cut Copy is pretty good fun.

Midnight Juggernaughts I know of and are remarkably less annoying than Cut Copy but thanks for playing.
I'll check out the Dirty Three when I get a chance.

There is a film of sorts that is coming out that documents the current indie scene in Melbourne, Australia.  It's called The Super8 Diaries, and it's coming out January 20th, 2008.  Several bands are interviewed, including some of my favorites Baseball, Witch Hats, and My Disco.  The bands all have one song filmed on a super8 camera featured in the documentary.  Here is Witch Hats' song.

This band reeks of Sonic Youth and The Jesus Lizard.

Off the top of my head:

Gauche, CODA, anything on Elefant Traks- especially Hermitude, King Tide, Jumbledat, the Imaginaries, the Captain's Package, Snowman, Cuthbert and the Nightwalkers, Elana Stone, Leanne Paris, Rica Tetas, Mr. Bamboo, Richard In Your Mind, Katalyst, the Phonies, the Bird (I like most of Ben Walsh/Bobby Singh's side projects too... check out Dha, Circle of Rhythm, Crusty Suitcase et al.), Cleptoclectics, Bluejuice, Rastawookie, Juke Baritone and the Swamp Dogs, the Avalanches (but only El Producto, everything else is average IMO), the Crooked Fiddle Band, Sub Bass Snarl, and uh...I've run out for the moment. Maybe more later.

Just listen to TripleJ during the day* some time this month. There is really too much great music out there right now.

Also, maybe you just hate fun? I dunno... you seem to put down everyone's suggestions without giving them a second thought.

*I say during the day because Robbie Buck shits me, Rosie Beaton shits me, Jay and the Doctor shit me and the entire TripleJ-listening-and-calling-in-audience shit me.

Well I can't go without getting at least one Perth band in there. Karnivool. They're a hometown favourite generally. There are other bands, rock and the such, but I don't know enough about them to recommend. And it doesn't sound like you're into metal, so I'll leave that as well. Ah well, Give Karnivool a look in, they're... um... different.

His cameo on Scrubs was the only good bit of this season, so far (aside from a drawn-out Dr. Beardface scene).

When I was in high school, the girl who had a locker next to me got me into an Aussie band called Kisschasy. Are they still around?

Hey dude, in the hope of not completely hijacking this thread, what are some of the bands that you'd recommend in the go of Metal. I see you're from Sydney, I just wondered what NSW had to offer, I try to keep track of the bands that are involved in the Perth metal scene, but it's nigh impossible.

In the way of Perth metal bands I'd offer the likes of various styles, including the likes of Pathogen (melodic metal), Malignant Monster (cross between melodic and some kinda black metal/death metal), Voyager (epic metal), Arterial Hemorrhage (grindcore at it's finest and most self depreciating), Blowtorch Abortion (similar to AH, but with more brutal themes, rather than such things like Quad Damage, it's more like Bashing Faggots witha 2x4, all in jest of course), Chaos Divine (a band that tends to support a lot of international supports in this town and gets good reviews), Grotesque (death metal, some fucking awesome stuff here, a definate for Perth DM), there are others, such as Noctis (black metal) but yeah, I'd be here all night.

Actually, check out the song that was done by Kylie Minogue and Nick Cave: Where the Wild Roses Grow. I generally don't like either artist, but I like that song.

Also, listen to community radio stations. Like 2SER or FBI if you're in Sydney. You'd like FBI. They're narrow-minded and pretty much only play indie and nothing else.

Yep. Kisschasy are possibly the crappest Australian band going (and yes, that includes Jet and HUman Nature)

It upsets me that indie kids don't accept Wolfmother. They're a pretty decent band, but they broke quickly and got tons of mainstream radio play and a song in GHII so they're immediately shit.

Also they do not have many good songs.   I would say that "Joker and the Thief" probably almost deserved most of the airplay it got (well I don't know what it was like overseas but here for a couple of weeks it was usually playing on at least one radio station, much like "Chasing CaaaAAARGHAARHAGHSHUTUPALREADYAAARGHAars" was two months before that), but none of the other songs are really worth listening to.

I saw in fiction the other week with the getaway plan.
Waste of a night i think.

The most important band you check out is Scott Edgar and the Universe.

It's one of the guys from Tripod, playing serious music.
He writes nice songs about girls, love and DnD characters.

While note explicitly about D&D, when I was at the album launch he mentioned it, and it makes a lot of reference to dice, and stuff like "I could have been a fighter or I could have been a thief"

Basically a song about the back story to a character he plays as.
It''s called "The Ballad of Osiris Stark" if you want to look into it.

Eheheh. I think I know the bassist from that band. I hear their next album/EP is gonna have some pretty whack cover art.

I've lost count of how many times I've recommended them on this forum, but seriously: check out Martin Martini & the Bonepalace Orchestra. They're playing in Sydney on the 23rd, if anyone wants to catch them (and if you don't want to then you probably just don't like live music).

Also, for something completely different: Darren Hanlon is the best songwriter in Australia. Seriously.

Lastly, I saw a really good country-soul band here in Melbourne last night called Dog With Wheels. Totally awesome gig.
