Daft Punk- Alive 2007
« on: 20 Nov 2007, 21:34 »

Holy God, Daft Punk made a mash-up record of their own songs.

I can only imagine how face-melting this must've been live.

I heard a few tracks from it on the radio, my mind can't comprehend this as a live gig. :-o

I'll tell you next month.

(I can confidently guess that it's going to be entire-body-melting though)

Daft Punk came around these parts in July and I missed it and I knew when tickets were on sale too.

So far this is number one on my List of Regrets. I will never forget it.

Yeah, this was a pretty amazing tour. My only complaint is that there's no live DVD, even though they recorded at least 2 of the shows (probably more, you can see clips of their Wireless show on Youtube, and I know they recorded in LA). The whole light show was such a gigantic part of making this performance memorable, and it kind of sucks that so many people are missing out.

The only time they've been around here in the recent past was Lollapalooza. Gah! Too expensive. That said, I am furiously envious of my friends who got to see the pyramid. And the album is pretty tight.

I have their coachella set, it is amazing. It isn't just cut'n paste mashups, it's brilliant cut'n paste plus new elements. Some tracks from Human After All really come alive in this setting.

I'll upload that set, actually. ETA an hour or so.

Daft Punk, SebastiAn, Kavinsky, Muscles, the Bang Gang DJs, Cut Copy, Van She Tech.

if any australian fans are interested, the special editon of this cd has just been released it comes in a pretty book with photos and a random bonus cd. the catch is that it has already been deleted by the label and won't be released in australia again. so after they are sold(and they are going quick, at least from my particular place of employment), you will have to pay a whole bunch more to get an import.
go! buy! and enjoy

Question for all of you audiophiles out there
On "Touch It/Technologic" at about :32, what are the words?
To me it sounds like "fuck it", of course, but my roommate says it's not (he says it's "flop it", which is completely ridiculous)
What does everyone else think?

having read jeph's guide to listening to Alive 2007 on the music blog, i finally convinced myself to sit through the entire CD. all i can say is.. wow. it's amazing when you put music on and people come from across my floor to find out what i'm playing (i live in a dorm). needless to say, there was a mini dance party for a while. definitely took the stress of finals away.

thanks jeph for getting me to finally listen to this and making an amazing comic!

the Bang Gang DJs

Whoa!  A couple of them played a party in my basement at the beginning of the school year.  They said it was the best party they'd ever done in the US (they're Australian).

Sorry, rereading the thread brought this back.  Carry on.

I finally, FINALLY found a copy of Alive 2007. It's like the freakin' Holy Grail of albums! Every store was sold out, until I finally snagged an overpriced copy at Silver Platters. Duuuuuude.....awesome album. From beginning to end, it rules. Jeph recommended it to me in person at the Emerald City Comic Con; I am so glad. Thanks, Jeph!
Oh, and Jeph... I can't BELIEVE you still haven't seen InterStella 5555! I may have to buy another copy and send it to you. I can picture Marten, Steve, Faye and Dora sitting around, getting drunk and watching it, complete with snarky comments about Shep being a creepy fanboy.

I am looking forward to this thing.

It was intended to be a "Fan DVD" of the show, they wanted to pair the sound of the CD with various video recordings of the show.
The previews they had looked quite promising, but according to their Youtube account, they got into trouble with the sample owners, so they can't release this thing. Now they're planning to give us a "special surprise" after that timer runs out (which is in just over an hour.). Nothing on the actual website says anything about the actual DVD being cancelled, so I'm optimistic about this being a late april's fools joke. If not, we'll probably get a streaming version or something.

I am officially an idiot. I figured that countdown was synced with an online clock, but it uses your system's time. I am at -1 days, and -1 hours now. I don't even know what timezone that countdown was supposed to use.

The time ended for me I think...  The timer isn't there and there's a button that takes me to some random page in some language I do not speak.  Looks like Portuguese to me, but honestly it could be Spanish or Italian or practically anything else written with this alphabet.

Yes, the timer is gone. The button was there before, I suppose the site is french, but  it's not too relevant to what's happening, check the "English Version" button.
The guy who does this project lives in Paris, apparently, so he lives in the same timezone as I do.
It seems that the countdown didn't count down to the "surprise", but to saturday. Looks like we'll get our surprise at 9pm CEST, id est in ten and a half hours.

If anybody hasn't bought this yet, I'd recommend doing so through iTunes.  If you buy the album through them, you also get a thingie in your library that opens a PDF document with 25 pictures from the set.  Pretty cool stuff!

Question for all of you audiophiles out there
On "Touch It/Technologic" at about :32, what are the words?
To me it sounds like "fuck it", of course, but my roommate says it's not (he says it's "flop it", which is completely ridiculous)

It definitely is "fuck it," but if you listen carefully enough one could (as I did) think it was actually "lock it," since they finish the lyric after they loop that phrase like 20 times.

I haven't yet found a copy of Alive '97, so I can't say. But it would stand to reason that the 2007 version would be better simply because they have a larger catalog of sound to work with than they did 10 years ago. At that time, they simply had "Homework."

And personally, I agree with Faye on the Daft Punk issue: "I'm sorry Dora, but liking Homework more than Discovery is like enjoying vanilla more than chocolate ice cream. It means that you are boring." --Faye Whitaker, strip number 452: We're Not Even Going To Mention Human After All

That's my favorite strip, because it's the one that got me turned on to Daft Punk in the first place. Thanks again, Jeph!
